I completely agree. Use it carefully if you need it but it shouldn't be the default.

I can't think of any oop abstractions that I prefer to functional abstractions. If you really need has-a is-a relationships or mutability you can get them a la carte with a language like Clojure, but they're not deeply baked in to

It's denser because there are so many lines of assignment statements in other languages. Though the temp vars provide some form of documentation, I still prefer to focus on compositions of pure functions and tests.

I really enjoy Clojurescript + React Native as well. Re-Frame + Hiccup is way better than redux + JSX. I'm pretty sure I can write equivalent apps with 50% less code compared to the Redux/UI boilerplate in most React apps.

There are cameras by sony that enable wireless transfer of full raw images, which I find incredibly convenient for mobile.

I also hated emacs because I hated the keybindings, but then I found spacemacs.

I use org-mode and emacs (spacemacs) extensively at my job. I start my day by creating org-mode headers as todos, breaking down the tasks that I think will take longer than an hour, and later taking notes in outline mode as I do the tasks.

You can always make something more abstract in Haskell. The challenging part is creating a good abstraction, but not going so abstract that only a few people in the world can understand your code.

The debate on dynamic vs strong is more important than testing vs no testing.

Good thing type checkers stop many bugs from happening in the first place. I do agree with him that conceptually simple dynamic (Clojure) > complex typed (Java).

Rent is expensive, but I pay 6-8$ for a good craft beer and ~12 for a nice bowl of pho for lunch. I dont even know where you could go to buy 14$ beer? Some hotel sky bar or a nightclub?

Learn Haskell, it significantly changed the way I think about programming and those new perspectives have been applicable in the other languages I've written in. Lisp is good, but I think Haskell will broaden your horizons more. The on

A language that someone could learn in a few days and can immediately start being productive writing fast concurrent code is interesting. And it is good.
