You can see culture, not birthplace. Those are different things. If you see me on the street, I believe you will see my family culture (Chinese) and where I was brought up (American Midwest). You will not see where I was born (East Coast)

So you used people's walking pace to determine that most native-born people do not take leisurely walks? ;) I am not offended, that sentence rubbed me the wrong way. I agree that most certainly culture affects our activities, even to the p

I disliked the part where he assumes he can tell where someone is born by looking at them. :( I wonder if he thinks he looks like a native-born or an immigrant?

The building blocks he lists are things that are possible right now . It's not a matter of figuring out the future, but rather seeing technology trends and creating a unique mix of those things that were previously impossible. It doesn't

If the patent system was working correctly, it would be protecting inventors. That's not exactly killing babies. And I don't think refusing to obtain patents while other companies can and will use them is a viable option. Not trying to si

What is up is the inflammatory submission title and linked page got people all riled up. There is not really a good reason to be linking tax codes with the end of the world. I'd downvote the submission if I could.

I agree that might be a better title. I thought it was interesting that she obviously considers herself a journalist but in that article, she was "ranting" with her blogger hat on. You have to say she is a journalist and a blogger. But yo

Then you should have read a sentence further where she says, "Whether in the hallowed halls of higher learning or in the less-hallowed halls of a professional newsroom, the journalist has been trained as such." She doesn't say that traditi

Of course, one great reason to be more critical is if they deserve it. I don't think that it's merited in these cases (original article or my link). I'm trying to figure out if this is a temporary/isolated thing, a systemic change, or a f

I also noticed Ars becoming much more anti-Apple as well as sensationalist. Articles like Siracusa coverage on the antenna press conference as well as his twitter feed seemed oddly vindictive to me. http://arstechnica.com/staff/fatbits/20

It also may be significant that many people who own an iPhone 4 are deliberately "testing" it and trying to attenuate the signal. That's the first thing I did after turning on mine. With the 3GS, most people weren't aware for how to att

Where is the revenue? I think that blog post, 1700 upvotes, and 1400 comments is pretty good indication of the possible revenue. Hint: it'll probably be more than the 3 readers of my blog will be ponying up this year. http://www.reddit.co

+1 Insightful. Requiring js for navigation is poor practice, especially if javascript is not needed for anything else. If you're only using it for animations/effects, requiring it can probably be avoided as well. I think the difference is

Generally the view is all the browser-side components: HTML, Javascript, and CSS. The only change in MVC with AJAX is the ability to make calls to the controller without a full page load. Using MVC is still good practice.
