I would argue that all those things I listed do in fact comprise much of what we understand as usability. Proper layout and good information architecture are built hand in hand with good alignment, consistency, readable fonts, and colors

Are you really arguing that alignment, consistency, appropriate typography, non-mediocre use of color, and more broadly, overall usability are only relevant to 1% of web users?

This is quite a day for news from MailChimp. We had already decided to go with MailChimp for our bulk email needs and have been on the fence about Amazon SES vs SendGrid. But with us already leaning toward Amazon SES, this pretty much jus

Incidentally, the startup my partner and I are working on is very much inspired by the same notion found in this XKCD comic. We're entering private beta in two weeks so if you're interested, shoot me an email.

The one thing that absolutely drives me up the wall is the recent touting of "Tim Ferriss's 'Slow-Carb' Diet" as if this was some sort of revelation previously withheld from the masses. Every time I hear somebody saying they're following i

This hits home for me since I just finished reading The Design of Everyday Things. The two improvements that Jason suggests can be traced back to some core design principles that Donald Norman lays out in his book: 1. An indicator to infor

FYI, the following repeats under your FAQ question "What is an 'optimal wake point?'" An optimal wake moment can be thought of as a "semi-awake" moment – the lightest point in your sleep. Waking at these times will result in minimal sleep i

I'm a huge metal head, but unfortunately most of that music easily distracts, whether it's the vocals, some killer riff, a favorite solo, etc. I think a big reason I've been adding some post-rock (Sigur Ros), trip-hop (Massive Attack) and
