Yeah public transit isn’t great for large groups. Fortunately, 90% of all trips that transit could replace are single occupancy vehicles. There’s no reason that bus has to take 3x as long as driving. Reducing the number of stops to a strate

If we wait for the Boomers to die off to start making change, things might gain traction by the time GenZ runs things. We really have to start now because the gears of change grind slowly and reluctantly.

EV “engines” don’t. Way to miss the point.

I’ve been looking at places for retirement where I can live car-free or at least very car-lite. There are very few places in the US where this will be possible in my lifetime. Absolutely, let’s more towards an EV future because that’s the b

Which is why I use Opus128 on my iPhone, where storage is a limited, fixed commodity and my listening environment is rarely optimized. Everywhere else is FLAC or mp3-256. My ears aren’t golden enough anymore to justify 320 bit mp3.

On $10 cheap buds? Yes. On $100 middling buds? Very, very few people will notice a difference.

For Covid, yes. If we look at the 1918 flu pandemic, the worst affected populations were those young adults with strong immune systems. They basically went into overdrive and the bodies attempts to fight the infection caused irreparable dam

Outside the Acela corridor is there a passenger train that achieves that in the US? Maybe the new Brightline. I've ridden the Amtrak Cascades quite a bit between Portland and Seattle. It's a scheduled 3.5 hour ride that usually ta

The last couple of hotels I stayed in had free "basic" wifi for guests. Elite status could get higher speeds for free or anyone else could pay something like $10/day/device to get higher speeds. I just switched to my cel

If you read the letter of many employment agreements, they try to claim anything you create while under their employ is theirs. Do they want your love letters? Not unless you become famous and they think they can make a book out of them. Do

And yet so many of us turn to social media to avoid feeling isolated. Urban, suburban, and rural life all have their pros and cons. Having lived in all three at various points in my life, I'm uncertain which lifestyle to choose as I be

If meeting up with a friend every few weeks instead of nightly means you no longer want anything to do with that person, I doubt the friendship was that strong to begin with. Also, there's a difference between having a friend turn down

My mother was a T1 diabetic back in the days where insulin injections were basically a best guess based on what you had eaten and planned to eat. It was always fun as a child not knowing whether my little screw-ups would bring an exasperate

Grandma isn't replacing her phone battery anytime soon. It wasn't that long ago, replacing a phone battery was as easy as replacing the batteries in my tv remote. Even grandma could do that.

Not true in my experience. If I search for a topic rather than an app name, Apple gives me relevant results all the way down and generally of decent quality. Google starts showing me fake flashlight apps by the fifth result or so.

Honestly, I'd be happy with only security patches. The lack of them after 12-18 months (I don't buy my phones on release day, usually about 6 months after) is what drove me away from Android. I'm on year 3 with my iPhone and

My Nexus 7 had the same issue. It's a shame really because for the first 18 months I owned it I loved it. In it's prime, I think it's still my all-time favorite device. Once it slowed to the point of being unusable, I gave it

In my area of the US, we have zoning laws more favorable than most. Even so, you can't build anything but SFH on my street. You can subdivide your acre lot and build 10 homes where there used to be one, and some people have done this.

How? You need to either build a LOT more parking or you need to make it possible to live without a car. There are only a handful (with leftover fingers) of US cities where going car-free is reasonable.

That's no different than how any piece of infrastructure is paid for. No one is paying cash to repave the roads either. Airports are so expensive they would be impossible without financing.

Whether you have 100 chickens or 100 million, if they cost you $6 and you sell them for $5, that's below cost. Also, it isn't limited amount of time. This has been Costco's MO for decades.

I've had to use urgent care a half dozen times over the past 20 years. In all but one case, they sent me to the ER because they didn't want to be responsible for my care outcomes. None of them were really "emergencies".
