Master typescript and you will be rewarded greatly! It is a fantastic tool with a very high level of adoption already. It makes React significantly easier to write and refactor. You won’t ever go back to plain .js! Deno is not relevant enou

Following your nonsensical logic there would be no difference in covid cases between states or nations. Obviously this is not true. It is absolutely the government’s job to enact policy to slow the spread of deadly disease. It is also the j

Yup! Among other type definition problems. The types are very poorly maintained. I’m planning to give Emotion a try as it has the same ‘styled’ api.

I hear this so often, so as an exclusively js/ts dev I have to ask... what about this is “done poorly”? ``` try { return await fetch(url); } catch (e) { handleError(e) } ``` Because that (metaphorically speaking) is 90% o

I’ll die on that hill— back when I was interviewing for my next frontend position I told all my prospects I wasn’t interested in working for them if they aren’t using TypeScript or at least open to migrating. There really is no reason to us

I'm curious, do they perform some sort of test reads on the reels to make sure that the data was actually copied over correctly?

I'm a frontend dev and amateur solo founder interested in tools that empower me to build more with less effort. Should I finally bite the bullet and learn Postgres/SQL? I have the (ill-informed) impression that it's better su

I think this is a neat idea and I hope it makes local and renewable powered goods more attractive to consumers (and ultimately, businesses). Though I often wonder why climate tech is so obsessed with super-accurate and granular carbon calcu

Should be required reading in school. Someone recently asked me what's the most important book I've ever read, and I said this. Every human should know about the potential fallacies of the mind, how to find truth, and how to be ha

Thanks! Great suggestion on the pricing, thank you. You've got the stack right, but I'm using Firestore instead of PostGIS. Since I don't need spatial queries (yet) and it let me get up and running quickly as a solo dev. Tota

Dear children, do not listen to this man. He is leaving out important details. He didn't tell you that the only effective solutions to climate change are on the policy level. That means new laws. Laws which apply to everybody in the wh

I agree. I have seen enough HN climate discussions to say that a "tech will save us" mindset is quite common around here. Where do you buy your offsets from? Any problems or complaints about your offsetting "experience"

I'd like to hear HNs opinions on carbon offsetting. Do any of you regularly purchase offsets voluntarily? If not, what would it take to convince you that offsetting your flights, vacation, or monthly lifestyle is a worthwhile expense?

Interesting way to frame it, but I'm not sure if I agree... If the net benefit is less death and injury, shouldn't that be the obvious choice?

I have a feeling our regulatory environment is going to be unfairly hostile towards AVs in the coming months and years. Of course we all want a safe and responsible rollout of this tech, but people too easily forget how ABSURDLY dangerous

It's not preferred. All the leading economic models and experts are in agreement that a flat carbon tax is the way to go (on paper). The problem is political feasibility and public acceptance. It is a lot easier to pass carbon trading

That would just cause the price to increase, creating an incentive for more extraction. The practical, most economically sensible solution to climate change is also the most politically unfeasible: carbon tax
