The newest Azure data center in Iowa(?) was going to be open air. Basically a pile of these containers in a field, with a big fence over it and a roof similar to a big car-port (no walls). They figured it was going to be better for cooling.

I believe this was literally Chapter 1 (ok, maybe chapter 2 or 3) of "Avogadro Corp: The Singularity Is Closer Than It Appears" [1]. Life imitates art, I guess? Or maybe that author is more prescient than I gave him credit for. [1

It's no secret that if you defy the authorities they escalate the amount of coercion they use. You just need to follow the progression far enough to get to the violence. They start with a polite court summons, then send a police office

But they're not really competing on the absolute scale of how fast they can execute a trade, but rather on how much faster than everyone else they can execute. If everyone else is slowed by an equal amount, the game doesn't chan

Wait, weren't you complaining about all the "wizard clickety clicky" things in another thread? If you hate wizards, and you hate "obscure incantations", which I'm assuming means code, then what do you like? Do

I'm reading this while I wait for a 10MB upload to crawl to completion on my 768Kbps up connection that costs $40/month. Which is especially sad because I live less than two miles from the dead center of Denver. So yeah, I'm

I can sympathize with Geithner about his errors, but his situation seems much more obvious than the notion that you'd have to pay US taxes even if you're living and working outside the US. I bet most people would not even think that it was
