Buying a property does take some capital, but large amounts of financing are much more easily available for property than for nearly anything else. There's also lots of tricks like getting a near-zero-down FHA loan, live there for a co

Your thesis seems to be that landlords have massive pricing power that allows them to exploit people by raising prices. But in most (not all) places it seems like that shouldn't be the case... - There are many landlords in an area, ran

No, I'm arguing that just comparing mortgage payments to rent payments leaves out a lot of the expenses involved in owning the property, such as maintenance.

Fair enough, I did not sufficiently qualify my statement. But my main point is that looking at just mortgage vs rent is leaving a lot of costs out of the equation. If you can get rent for less than the monthly mortgage payment, then the lan

It is always the case that the monthly cost to buy is lower than rent. It has to be, because the rent is covering the cost of repairs and depreciation which isn't included in your mortgage payment. And then there needs to be some left

I didn't fund Limit Theory, but I've been following it because it does look cool. You may have missed it, but the developer recently resurfaced. Hopefully he'll get things back on track... http://forums.ltheory.com

True, you want the trees and panels on whichever side of the house is sunniest. Since the GP was talking about "trees shading the south side of my roof" I'm guessing that he's in the northern hemisphere. Or maybe he'

Deciduous trees on the south side of your house are great for energy efficiency. The shade reduces summer cooling costs, and then the leaves drop so you get solar heat in the winter. You should definitely think about it carefully before cut

How does one enter coordinates on that device? I'd guess that as an offset from your location ("200m north of my position") might be the easiest way. If that's the case, then starting with a zero offset would be the logi

Drilling a well takes a long time, and it typically is not worth stopping part way. So it takes a long time for output to respond to price signals. Most of the increased capacity is due to wells that were started before the prices dropped.
