Sorry to say this, but everyone in this thread should be aware of ghost job openings. https://www.reuters.com/breakingviews/fake-jobs-hide-cooler-... It's sometimes incompetent HR process and sometimes intentional

This is pretty narrow minded. I like playing basketball. I will never be as good as Lebron James. It's fun to watch someone else play at the edge of what is possible. I might even learn something I can use myself. I like software devel

I had that thought too. What will these robo-voices sound like 2 iterations from now? We've entered new territory.

The quality of the voices here is striking. If I wasn't clued in, I probably wouldn't know these weren't human. At least the male voice sounds slightly more natural to me.

In my opinion, there's too much real estate value locked up in Florida's coastline to allow rising sea levels. Flood control in the Netherlands goes back to at least 325 BCE. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floo

It is definitely about tracking SPECIFICALLY YOU. Target, one of the largest retailers in the US, has already abused tracking to increase targeted advertising to expecting mothers. https://bit.ly/3S3hlrA

A free person shouldn't have to articulate why they need privacy. Privacy should be the default in free societies. I can play this game though: you are pregnant, but have not shared that information yet with your family because it'

It's easy to interest people in maintenance if you pay them. A quick search shows Bank of America turned a net profit in '23 of $6.9B. It would be trivial for them to pay a fleet of engineers $250k/yr+ for Java maintenance. I

Imagine the millions of dollars of destroyed property value in the area around the site. At a minimum the rail company should have to buy out all the land at the day-before market value. You broke it, you buy it.

It's a lucky thing, for sure, but many upper-middle class people in the West take a few years off of work for various reasons now already. Sabbaticals, child care, travel, etc. If human lifespans increase to many centuries, it would be

HSPP spending this kind of money and time to improve security is just a reputation protective measure. I'd expect any casino, card room, or bank to do this regularly before I'd trust six figures with them.

Funny, this website struck me as profoundly ugly. Ugly beige and muted browns and grays. Misaligned header and side columns. Don't get me started on the "ugliness" of the homepage... :/

I got a recruitment email this morning that said "unlimited sick leave!" then in fine print at the bottom: "If applicant lives in CO, they will receive paid sick days." Labor laws in this country are nutty.
