From my earlier reading on this site, essentially the other dating sites bid up ads quite highly, presumably because the lifetime value of a dating customer is quite high for a paid site. It was a lesson I'll always remember - if you&#

It would seem to me that the visual obstruction of the column causes as much as the physical obstruction. An interesting twist on the experiement would be to construct a clear obstruction that people could see through - and see if that imp

Adam Smiths point is that you should stick to the production of whatever goods you have inherent comparative advantage at. That doesn't mean you should be a mono-skilled person with only a bimodal work/consume life. To be a rounde

Nice. In terms of buying the raw materials - you should find if there is a specialty supplier in your area. You can get a lot more interesting cuts and species from those, especially if you're working on relatively small scale proje

A timely article for me. I'm spending my first day sitting a custom-made sit/stand desk. Tailored to fit exactly in the spot it was designed for, with shelving designed to fit exactly what I wanted. With monitor height at the o

Not over time. Each failure is knowledge banked away, knowledge that is often cross-applicable to other situations. Even for skilled tradesmen, there is always the possibilty of having a job go bad and having to eat the cost of putting it

Forgive the TL;DR; - the examples on the site don't include any image inserting. How would I go about adding image insertion capability? Would the idea be that I build/find an image handler plugin module and add it in?

Yes, but I bet check-in, or wherever they enforce the carry on, was slower. That is why they don't enforce it regularly - because the customer blowback and holdups at the check-in are the airlines problem. Whereas people bringing on

Perhaps the pilot procedures take x amount of time - which is fixed. Whether boarding takes x, or x-10 minutes wouldn't change the ability of the flight to leave. There is also landing/takeoff slots, which are outside the control

Virgin Australia domestic planes sometimes board without jetways (even in airports with jetways). I believe this is to save on landing fees. When they do this, they open front and back doors with stairs. These planes board significantly

The moron-boarder is a non-trivial issue. I don't think you can adequately model that type of behaviour. Any method has to be robust to problem boarders - people who go for the bathroom, can't find their seat, bring on too much

I fly often enough that I have frequent flyer status and get access to early boarding. I find this valuable because of the following reasons: a) It allows me to enter an empty plane and find my seat and stow my carry-on (correct size) right

The mythbusters segment alluded to in the article is quite interesting to watch. I think they did a quite good attempt at creating a real-life scenario for boarding a plane. While the article suggests that part of the issue is that the air

Yes, that's what I am saying. There is a pricing point at which having a customized sales process absolutely makes sense. What I am saying along with that is that - by doing this - you're ignoring a lot of the market at (or even

So many times I say this to people. Sometimes the reason people aren't buying is because they can't find the price, and aren't willing to pay the mental price of talking to a sales person to find out. I understand the sales

It's interesting the migration of trends from the hand-crafter (but expensive) to the mass-produced, but cheap, and then starting to come back to the hand-crafted, where it can be afforded. I'm not sure if that is a natural cycle
