I was under the impression that features like routing required the expensive paid Google Maps tier.. is that not the case?

If it's aimed at tech geeks, what does it do that we're not already able to do with our myriad of existing devices? I noticed that it conveniently comes with a remote desktop utility.. you know, in case you want to do something other than u

But neither GCC nor Clang support Microsoft's debug symbols as far as I'm aware. If you're writing libraries for Win32, your users are likely using Visual Studio and they're going to get unhelpful stack traces without those debug symbol fil

MonoTouch does give you a native experience. It's basically a C# binding for native APIs. It also has a few nice extras like MonoTouch.Dialog which provides a much nicer API for doing iPhone dialogs than using UITableView (although you ca

Seriously, why is this on hacker news? This is ridiculous. I'd downvote this if we were on reddit. :)

I haven't tried it with 12.04 yet, but I've had poor experience getting Gnome installed and running decently in the last couple versions of Ubuntu. It seems like Fedora is the easiest way to use it.

Gnome did no such thing. Unity is developed entirely by Canonical, they own full copyright on it and they employ all the developers for it. They can add any options they want, and they can omit any options they want. Gnome doesn't even fact

Kind of funny that you say this, since CoffeeScript inserts semicolons. The lack of semicolons is the one major thing in the Github style guide that I think is stupid. It seems silly to avoid using semicolons in Javascript because it actua

Debian and Ubuntu shouldn't be in the business of trying to second-guess upstreams. They should be packaging things up as they're released.

Another thing which OSX has done for a long time that I really liked is that everything syncs to vertical refresh. It doesn't actually speed anything up, but it gives the perception that things are smoother and more responsive. You don't

Ubuntu has a rails package already, and nobody uses it. It only serves to confuse new users. Trying to mix deb and gem just hasn't worked well so far. Making a Rails.app for Mac is different though, because everything would be isolated in

It doesn't mean the project is failing. Kubuntu had only a single developer from Canonical, and numerous other developers. This just means that Canonical doesn't feel like funding a KDE desktop anymore with that one developer. It doesn't me
