No way, you are just wrong. Markets existed well before capitalism and well before corporations, and they exist where neither of those things exist.

I used "we evolved" in the sense that he used it so I could communicate with him; in actuality, I subscribe to the Selfish Gene hypothesis where "we" really don't matter at all. Our genes compete for survival agains

You believe that humans evolved to eat certain foods, but you ignore that we also evolved to be lazy and avoid unnecessary exercise. Maybe we evolved to eat everything we could get our hands on and to live to 40 years old in order to propog

It's not driven by capitalism (any more than any transaction ever has been), it's driven by consumerism. Twinkies would not be manufactured or sold if people didn't like gobbling them up at the available price. Stop blaming c

it grates against my engineering soul when so many of my fellow engineers forget that the x86's themselves are virtual machines, microcoded architectures that implement x86's. And that any OS's job upon booting is to present

I pointed it out to be lighthearted, but it's true not sarcasm, and not only true, it's also meaningfully instructive to think about the benefits of lazy evaluation. For example, a priority queue (list of tasks) does not need to b

in a purely functional language like Haskell, you can sort a billion numbers in nanoseconds, all with no performance crushing side effects. Yes, it's true, that's the kind of results you get with lazy evaluation! When you start se

Is Hacker News comment history "private/free speech", or does YC use Hacker News comment history in judging founders, employees, business partners etc.? I'm not talking about the judgements anybody could make by googling

are you suggesting that companies can get around labor regulations by declaring your compensation to be confidential? I'd check with a lawyer if I were you, that's some pretty thin ice you are skating on.

wellll if you are going to nitpick you ought do it a little more cleanly: you are confusing machine language with assembly for starters, and even at the level of machine code, processors such as the x86 family were designed keeping support
