The author of the open letter is behind iPhone Wax: http://github.com/probablycorey/wax It may also be worth nothing that the particular case of Lua was already prohibited under the iPhone DPLA section 3.3.2 which states that no interpret

I bought 'qrko.de' for nearly the same purpose: URL shortening with bit.ly style analytics but with built in QR support (and maybe user-agent tracking. It would be interesting to see the device market share for code scanning) I'll probably

To be frank, I'm not going to TOUCH a library that contains 400k of base64-encoded zip data. If it wasn't actually an April fools joke, bad form.

My two personal experiences with Sugru so far: 1. The stuff is amazing. As an experiment, I completely coated an 802.15.4 temperature sensor in a thin coat and threw it into an autoclave (to test the temperature claims, etc). It held up. 2.

I personally think the necessity of using an IDE merits complaint itself. Yes, Eclipse and IntelliJ do some pretty amazing things. I wish I had a toolset that nice for C/Python/whatever. By contrast, without the toolset in Java, you're sunk

The bug is capable of completely locking up modern browsers (to say nothing of the situation back in 2008 when the issue was discovered). Esoteric or not, this should have been on the very top of the work pile and dropped into a security

So, they verified the bug over a year ago and haven't pushed out the fix because it's slated for an as-of-yet unreleased point upgrade? Confidence inspiring.

Looks like everyone gets a "Hi, my name is..." sticker. I'll put an orange HN on mine or some such. Challenge response sounds like too much effort to implement. Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/techcocktail/sets/

Yes, the iPhone supports double-tap to zoom, and it works reasonably well. I rarely have to pinch to zoom in or out in order to get a better view of the content.

I believe he means the Linksys NSLU NAS box. The thing is, modding that device isn't much different from jailbreaking your iPhone. If you're okay with invalidating the warrantee on the slug, then I don't understand why you'd complain about

I'd like to clarify the following quote from the article: " Ipredator is currently using the same platform as several other VPN franchises including Relakks, which means it’s not really anything we haven’t seen before. " The term "platform"

Before there were dozens of decent ad-blocking extensions out there I was a big user of Privoxy. It had an action called "deanimate-gif" that would display only the first frame of the animated image. I'm not sure if Privoxy was downloading

I'd love to hear your rationale. I recently landed at a small startup in San Diego. We're downtown in class A office space, 16th floor with a Pacific view, and we pay less than $2.50/sqft. I'm having a hard time seeing how being in the bay

My Verizon USB-3G modem is basically only usable under Linux if I use WvDial and treat it like dial-up. It's equally hilarious when you find out that connecting requires the hardcoded password of "777" regardless of your individual detail

No, you're spot on. 2.2.2.4.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer vnsc-bak.sys.gtei.net. Even though the IP space hasn't been SWIP'd to GTE/Verizon, the server(s) behind that IP are evidently theirs.

I remember a time when UE was really the best option for Windows. Just think, (S)FTP integration! I certainly put a lot of miles on it. Nowadays though, so many editors (some of them free) with identical feature-sets have popped up across a
