You need money to have a marketing budget. How’re you going to get the budget? If you take VC money, you’re back at the same issue as every other dating app. Growth at all costs. You’d need a benevolent billionaire or something to make this

You need a lot of users to make a dating app successful. That’s the biggest hurdle for any dating app currently. How’re you going to get people to know about your app if you don’t have a large marketing budget? It’s gonna be hard. You’d nee

Currently, the narrative is that women cannot be at fault for anything. They are always victims and therefore regardless of what they do - they must somehow be being manipulated by others or suffering from someone else besides them. Women w

Go to Leetcode, look up a bunch of LC hards, and you'll start to get an idea. Even with practicing those well and doing well overall, I am finding employers are looking for something exceptional. You can pass all of those questions opt

It really isn’t. Asking people stuff like N Queens, Trapping Rain Water, and other such questions is really about if you’ve seen the problem before and studied enough to solve them optimally in under 20 minutes while explaining out loud. It

It’s filtering on dedication and desperation. It’s why so many in the tech industry are H1B. There’s no lack of domestic talent but domestic talent doesn’t need a visa to stay in the country. So, they’ll not go through the insane process

Getting into quant finance is not very common. Getting into tech SWE - even FAANG - is much more common. There are way more people working as SWE in tech than as quants. I've rarely met anyone who is a quant and doesn't have a PhD

If you’ve followed the money train, you should practically be fatFIRE by 50 assuming you’re in SF. I can imagine it being difficult if you’re single income but dual income tech workers in SF should be easy FIRE territory for a 50 something.

You’re assuming you even could buy a home at $200k/yr. You can’t in several places - usually places where those $200k incomes are achievable.

Maybe in some cases but I often see founders getting diluted a lot as well. Many times when startups get acquired/whatever - founders will get next to nothing because the investors had liquidation preferences. The founders still go thr

I’m not the friend but I’ve quit a 7 figure job. I hated it and put my money where my mouth was. I took another job for a massive pay cut. Money isn’t everything. I started comparing my everyday life to prison. “How much money would I take

It’s a really fucking bad time to be joining startups. They’re picky, offering shit comp on top of it, and have very little chance of a sizable liquidation event for employees in a long time. Idk if I’ll join a startup again in the next few

Ultimately, dilution doesn’t matter for 99% of employees. You could experience 10x dilution but if the price goes up 100x - you’re still up 10x. Would it be great if you went up 100x and no dilution? Sure but that’s not how it works.

Not all of it is “fake”. Getting a pump, having good downlighting, and being picky about what you eat that day are all things that will make a lot of people who appear soft in other conditions look freaky. I’ve seen it for myself. Downlight

A lot of this assumes so many things that I think people who were born and raised in stable UMC (like most on HN) take for granted. Even if I lived close to the family I was born into, I would never let them get near my children. The years

Big tech is definitely not hiring like it used to. I’m not sure where you’re getting your source but big tech has been doing most of the layoffs for the last 18 months and not rehiring to fill.

I don’t typically spend an hour at the airport either. This is why SFO is generally amazing and my favorite airport in the country. I often show up after boarding has started and have never been close to missing a flight.
