Listening to the audio will certainly do the trick. He runs through a lot of the big picture explanations of the problems that he was working on with the whiteboard but those aren't primary. By his own telling, all of the problem detai

I watched through the series a couple of months ago. I will do my best to provide a couple of the highlights that I really liked. Unfortunately, I didn't keep a detailed journal of the course as a I watched. I really should have. Gener

I'm hoping that you were not the one who down-voted a my perfectly legitimate point of view. I agree with you that there is a little bit of a straw man attack going on here...if you haven't read Christensen's book. That being

This is a really well written and interesting perspective. I really enjoy hearing contrarian opinions to commonly held beliefs. Well done!

I agree with you so much. I find myself digging into Erlang docs more and more. That being said, I think there needs to be a communal effort to improve Erlang documentation. It is very terse. One of the points brought up in Garret Smiths ta

I got the book last weekend. Chris has done a wonderful job! For me, metaprogramming is one of the things that was a deciding factor with Elixir, in addition to all the other functional programming aspects that are part of the language. I&#

Agreed. This is a great example of a "straw man attack". He sets up an intellectually shallow definition of a philosophical ideal and then somehow manages to connect it to Florida politics...Brilliant! He deals so fluently in gene

Thank you for the note. I hadn't visited the github yet. I will be interested to see whether people can whittle down the respective benchmarks.

That is very good to know. That reassures me a little. I was really impressed with the speed difference they noted between Python and R and the fact that Numba wasn't too much slower than C++ implementations. However, given the state o

It is unfortunate that the authors of this paper didn't reach out to experts in each programming language in order to write high-quality code against which they could have run the analysis. This seems like the perfect use-case for open

Great argument! I think you are making a valid point. If I understand your point correctly, it is primarily a question of placing a value on different activities and comparing the price of a Soylent meal to the opportunity cost of lost time

Well played!! In fact, I agree with you...I only listen to non-fiction at 2x the speed. Most modern non-fiction has one main point that they stretch out over 200 pages. I couldn't imagine listening to a novel at double to speed.

It has next to nothing to do with France in and of itself. I'm utilizing a stereotype to make a point. Yes, I've been living in Paris and London, 2 of the most expensive cities in the world. By the way, I've also lived in Mal

Wow! The quantity of bad advice in these comments is shocking, if not down right disturbing. If Intel, GE, or Mircosoft hired a consultant to advise them on the right move, the vast majority of people on HN would scream bloody-murder and sp

Haha, actually I thought about that as I was writing. I was going to change what I wrote a bit for that reason and then I recalled my No. 1 rule in life: "Don't be a douchebag!" and I left what I wrote as is.

Startups are not defined by their growth. However, VC-backed startups are customarily focused on growth. The difference between these two statements is subtle but important. 'Revenue first, growth second', a paraphrasing of Clayte

I completely disagree with your statement. Maybe there is a bigger question: 'Is crossing the chasm to widespread adoption always a good thing?' Maybe we should be trying to build platforms that are high-quality instead of high-qu
