That's the plan, after the compiler is converted to Go and there's an internal SSA form, etc. Also, gccgo is a very good optimizing compiler but is held back by lack of escape analysis, which I mentioned is being worked on.

I optimized the Go JSON serialization in Go 1.2. See https://code.google.com/p/go/source/detail?r=5a51d54e34bb ... it went from 30% to 500% faster. It uses much less stack space now, so the hot stack splits

Why are you allocating in your standard implementation's Check function? That can't be good for performance.

I find IRC to be distracting and more often than not a waste of time. I gave up IRC 10+ years ago and and am much happier. If people want to communicate, there are plenty of other options, both real-time and not.

Go doesn't scan big []byte/strings, so the GC isn't a problem.

And then I rewrote it in C++ for App Engine and other users within Google (Blogger, Plus, hundreds others). I also then ported the C++ memcached (called memcacheg) to Go, for profiling Go vs C++, and named that one memcachego. So I've

This answer sums up my feelings best: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7479276/what-is-the-main-... It's good for C#, but still a language wart that could be built-in. I like that Go only has one set of AP

It wasn't a dig on nodejs. It was a dig at event-based programming, on which I've wasted years of my life in many languages. Node.js isn't unique in that regard. As I mentioned in my talk, that code looks like fine Node.js

Sorry, wasn't my intention. But it's only 4 more lines. In my defense, I only showed three pages of C++, and not all of it, which would've been longer than the whole presentation. So I cut less from the Go snippets than the C

Parts of both. Some of the logic is ported from C++ to Go almost line-for-line. Some of the architectural parts are completely redone. But it has the same binary name and flags and RPC interface

I think you're doing something wrong. Are you using the Go App Engine SDK? Then you just run dev_appserver.py $DIR and it runs.

It's mostly C++ for indexing and lookup, but "Search" is a big topic, and there are Go, Java, and Python parts in the many systems that make Google's web search work. Go is growing in popularity within Google.

I am a core dev on the golang team. Teams and engineers at Google can use whichever language they want. (trade-offs abound) We're trying to make Go be the most compelling language with the fewer trade-offs so they're willing to switch. It's

There's less bureaucracy than you imagine. I asked a couple coworkers from the Go and Downloads team, "hey, should I post about this?" and they were like, "yeah, go for it." But yes, it's kinda marketing because I love Go (which is why I j

Hate to disappoint, but Campher uses cgo + the unsafe package, which means it Campher won't run on App Engine, which doesn't allow "unsafe".

I think it might have a bug or two yet. Perl is reference counted and Go is garbage collected. Keeping those two synchronized was a bit tricky and I still fear I messed it up somewhere... I need to re-read the Perl docs on when I'm suppos

We could (and kinda expected that somebody _would_) but I don't quite see the existing tools working. I'd love to be proven wrong, though. I suppose it could be done with some remapping front-end, but I think that front-end would also nee
