For most things in life that hit us periodically, we try to buffer them into manageable amounts so that when we address them, we do them all at once, benefiting from “economy of scale”, instead of having to constantly work on addressing eve

Oh what?? Most package managers do try to prevent typo squatting!! Your insistence that there’s something fundamentally different between different package managers is just weird! Debian, as npm, lets you package and distribute software. Th

With a calculation like that I'd buy solar in a heart beat! But as I said, my main concern is my winter bill, which I know by asking people who own solar in the region, is almost the same with solar since there's no sun at all (it

Wow your current electricity must be really expensive... or your solar setup is?? Also the calculation was done by the company selling it, I'm pretty sure that was far too optimistic.

Also embedding Neo4j is not possible, that seems to be the killer feature for YouTrackDB, they even shade dependencies so it’s like a no deps Java library for your application.

Java implementations sometimes take part of the name from the interface they implement, for example, `FooRunner` probably implements `Runner`. My example was that I renamed `Runner` to whatever, `Executor`, and IntelliJ will ask me if I wan

It's pretty difficult to tell whether something is, or was at some point, a well known project. Things that were major 20 years ago but are no longer used tend to become invisible since search engines prioritize recent knowledge. For e

Oh I didn't know that... Swish is quite different so I would expect it to be a completely independent invention, and in any case I don't really know which is older.

But being so afraid that you have never been outside unless accompanied by your bosses would be pathological in any other case. Also, what I said was "ridiculous" was the jury's conclusion, not going outside.

Perhaps new devs should write all their code by hand until they feel comfortable doing that. Then, they can start using LLMs gradually, just a little bit at first, all the way to fully AI generated code. However, that would just make the di

You should read again what I said. Do you think that simply using GUIs makes anyone less productive? You can’t think of any cases where a GUI is definitely better for a task than a terminal? If you think that , consider why the vast majorit

No! Rename in JSP is not intelligent enough to match an interface name with its implementation names and decide whether to also rename those!

The only case I can imagine is when I rename a Java interface and want all implementations to be also renamed accordingly. I can do that in 1 second in IntelliJ. With dired on emacs that would not be possible at all and I would need a tool

You’re judging RMS skills based on the current performance of a tool he created 40 years ago using the tools available at the time. That’s wild. You complain about emacs being single threaded but computers in the 80s had a single core. Soft
