Getting folks on an email list to announce the bat-time and bat-channel might be the way to go. Otherwise, everyone will completely forget. Anyone have a quick service that allows folks to create a very simple and small email list of folks?

I would suspect a good IDE might be better than a headful of little things a kid has to remember. ("Hey buddy, see how you missed the ; here, better add that!")

Let's keep rehashing how a language creates terrible code and how none of it has anything to do with the guy sitting in the chair pushing buttons. Seriously, can we just nuke this argument?

I think many of you have completely forgotten what sucked you into hacking. Here's how to get a kid hooked on programming: 1. Programming should be fun. 2. Programming should be fun. 3. Programming should be fun. Who really cares

This is not a bad idea. Interfacing with hardware can be really fun, but basic enough that they can be creative. "Hey, see if you can make those 8 LEDs do like the KITT car!"

I've given this question lots of thought over the years. I really started loving programming when I found Garry Kitchen's GameMaker. It wasn't very elegant, but it was damn fun. I'd push him toward PHP. The goal isn't to make him a great pr

It has always been a well-known fact that the founding fathers of Perl had only a passing interest in all things web. It shouldn't be completely surprising, because of this, other technologies have slowly displaced the language. For the lon

Same deal with me. We go through this on nearly every review. I think that instead of a day of coding, the team should sit around the table and bang out a list of reasons why people should sign up to their service right now. This is critica

Widget, maybe. I was specifically talking about something akin to a "native" app. You need hooks to the OS, period, for developers to be happy. Maybe we need a new word for HTML/JS/CSS apps that have OS-specific hooks. Widget is a horrible

How many hooks do you really need to get a developer up-and-running? File system access? Ability to play sounds? AIR has a very limited set of extra javascript commands, but it is enough to give the developer the feeling they are definitely

I love my iPhone. But giving developers the option to cook up apps in HTML/JS is a very slick move. I don't know how it'll play out, but any average web developer will be able to immediately pump out an app without breaking open a iPhone SD

Accepting doesn't mean standing in the corner picking your nose for the duration of your life. If you are really interested in this concept, I highly recommend reading Katie Byron. All her work is about accepting life as it is.

For years now, I haven't traveled with a spare battery. As battery times are extended, the need for spares decrease. Apple appears to have squeezed a ton of run-time out of this new configuration. If this gets you from New York to San Franc
