Ah, I guess `when` is literally Kotlin's equivalent of match. What I'm thinking of here is Rust's match statements, which do give you the ability to make use of those intermediary values by making use of Rust's enum type

One option is match statements. Great way to make this sort of inline assignment unnecessary

Clojure/Clojurescript is an interesting ecosystem in these regards. You get your shared models and lisps are pretty good at being their own form of custom syntax. It's a pleasant ecosystem with really good tooling support

Easy until you have 100,000 of them anyway, in which case it's expensive and slow to run it for every dev. (At that point you have enough devs that microservices 100% make sense, though)

For fun and learning. In the last 10 years all sorts of new languages have come out and been successful. We're not nearly at the end game of language development.

In postgres and mysql, at least, the database has to re-scan data every time you run a limit/offset query query. It gets progressively slower as your offset increases. The efficient way to handle it is to set a lower limit on the pkid

50oz of Tide runs cheaper than 16oz of Frey detergent. How much of the market is open to such a premium on the pricing model (or is there another factor I'm missing)?
