I watch a goodly percentage of my content through Netflix instant, and I actively avoid the Starz provided content. It's never in HD, and even for that the quality varies from middling to almost poor. I've watched a couple of things from St

"Fake", in the sense that it was probably written originally as a piece of fiction (edited since I noticed the "3 years ago"). See, for example, this Metafilter post about it from May 2009: http://www.metafilter.com/81905/Think-Different

True... however, a moderately large website I have access to analytics has about 5% of Chrome users using something older than 11. It's possible to install Chrome without enabling the auto updates, so exactly which versions of Chrome they s

And once again, they list specific version numbers for IE, Firefox, and Safari, but just say "Chrome" for Chrome, even though later it groups Chrome with the rest of the two most recent. I guess it's because they don't know for sure what ve

I mean, it's not that Nokia was only going to be releasing three devices before 2014, it was three MeeGo devices. I guess you could argue one/year is too slow to keep up, but they were going to continue to release Symbian phones. And I'm no

I honestly don't know why they feel like need to release a huge number of devices to compete against Apple and Android. Apple releases one every, what, 15 months? And for Android, it seems you really only need ~3 devices (one with a keybo

In the Metafilter thread (actually on MetaTalk) thread about it, Jessamyn (his daughter) posted a few links about Tim West: http://metatalk.metafilter.com/20664/RIP-Tom-West#889672

This sounds kind of silly to say, but when I spent 5 minutes getting abcde set up (to rip, encode, and tag into Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and FLAC at the same time), and then had it finish encoding everything just 30 seconds or so after it finished

Well, it never was listed that Oracle was the reason, just that it was one of, and indicative of why it failed. If the MySQL solution was working, which the answerer on Quora implied, and there was no immediate sign of its failure, I thin

Uh, as far as I know Google hasn't actually paid the fine yet since they're most likely going to appeal. So the headline (from the source and you used here) is at least half wrong.

It's good they're doing this, but since I've switched to a browser with WebM support a few months ago, and opted-in to the trial, I've run across only a couple of videos not in WebM.

There's nothing wrong with a famous person having psudeo-anonymous accounts that aren't tied to their real identity, but to then defend themselves as if they were not connected... Well, that's just not cool. Cortex, who posted what you quot

The initial reports said "Cisco said the shutdown of Flip will result in restructuring charges of up to $300 million this fiscal year". See http://www.industryweek.com/articles/cisco_closing_flip_busi... for example. I assume that might i

This article doesn't mention it directly, but after reading the bit about the FlipLive makes this more likely to me: the wrong people in Cisco finally realized what Flip might be able to do. Which is replace Cisco's teleconferencing enterpr

I would rather count on the media player (Blu-ray player or whatever) or TV to do it than in the source. Think of it this way: in NTSC, DVDs were either had hard 3:2 pull down for 24Hz to the 29.97Hz to show on the interlaced CRTs of the ti

48 divides evenly into 240, so in theory a 240Hz TV could take a 48Hz signal and display it without any pulldowns, while 120Hz is 2.5 times 48, so it needs to do some work to create extra frames. (And really, that's the main advantage, curr
