   Serious question - is there anything fundamentally wrong with using regex here?

   I often manage thousands of servers. This is not a viable option for me.

   The fizzbuzz test is not entirely about whether someone can do it. It's also about figuring out the style of the programmer. There's a surprising amount of flexibility to fizzbuzz; how is user input handled? Do they use a linter

   Eh, not really. A string with a tab is still hard to tell apart from a string with spaces. Linters don't help there (why would they?). And no way in hell am I going to change Vim to display them differently!

   Here's one: when your code has no tabs, it's very obvious that whitespace is just a bunch of spaces. With tabs, it's harder to say, especially when mixed. It's one less thing to think about.

   Lots of people are already, hence where this sort of decision comes from. If you don't think enough folk are standing up, then why not do your own advocacy work? It's surprisingly fun and especially rewarding.

    I use a python library called 'passwordmeter' to check the password 'strength' of tokens. If the token's password strength is high, it's either going to be a password, a hash, a key, or perl (half joking). It&#

    At my last job, I wrote a little tool to download hipchat chat logs and scrape them for anything that looks like a password. There were tons!! I raised it to the CTO/CIO, and while they sounded interested in it, they never enacted any

    Yep! It's great, but is maybe 60% there, so I'm looking for something that can extract much more structure from a document. I doubt what I'm looking for will exist for another 10 years, though.

    Here's a clean way to do that: str_fmt = "File exists, not uploading: {filename} -> {bucket}, {key}" fmt_vals = dict(filename=filename, bucket=bucket, key=key) raise ValueError(str_fmt.dedent().format(**fmt_vals))

    Interesting. I'm legitimately surprised the author put so much work into this research (happy they did!). By far one of the biggest culprits for "really odd behavior" is because of a full disk, or the disk is in some failing&

    Yes, that's extremely cheap. In Chicago, there was a system being developed in partnership with University of Chicago to make city-owned database schemas open to the public through a PHP web app. The system cost 300k to develop, was

    It can help some amount, though. Bind the NIC interrupts to a small handful of cores. Or, ensure that ssh only works through a management NIC, and have that NIC bound to the same cores as sshd. You can get really fancy with these setups, es

    Yes - use taskset or isolcpus with other magic to put sshd on its own CPU core, or one core per CPU. Lots of HFT places do that.
