Yes, agree. Also, SDKs are quite expensive - while GPU vendors give theirs away for free. This might be one reason for relatively low adoption vs GPU.

:) I've only been deeply involved with compute for the past two years, so I am still an optimist. I think AMD pretty much has no choice but to get it right this time: they need server and HPC dough to stay afloat.

You should check out ROCm http://hothardware.com/news/amd-rocm-13-adds-support-for-pol... They are revamping their entire linux stack for HPC, heterogenous compute.
