> Maybe votes actually don't matter that much? I think Brexit is a good counterpoint to this: almost every large corporation thought it was a terrible idea, but it still got voted through and carried out. > Good for them! One que

I hear that a lot about Singapore. The thing most people don't seem to realise is that in 1960 Singapore was essentially a giant slum. All these "collective" behaviours have appeared since then helped along by government camp

That's why I added the "in theory" caveat : ) I still think a shift would matter. There is some evidence for this in the UK because homeowners generally vote Conservative, but people are becoming homeowners later in life and

There are detached homes in Singapore - their price and taxes just reflect the fact that about a hundred people would normally be living on the same ground, and those people have to be compensated. I think a fairer comparison in terms of re

I think zoning, especially single-use zoning, is much less common outside of the US. So I don't think it accounts for the global success of AirBnB.

Yeah - perhaps you missed it, but it says "Keep in mind George Orwell's six elementary rules ("Politics and the English Language", 1946)" just before it enumerates them. I think lots of good style guides quote them.

There seems to be some confusion in the comments here. Rockstar Leeds [1] worked on mobile games (like the excellent GTA: Chinatown Wars) and ports of games from other Rockstar studios. It was founded as Möbius Entertainment and rebranded a

I wonder why they don't use `location.replace` [1]. It isn't exactly new. Edit: ah, I see, it doesn't work for changing domains. Still, they could use e.g. bbc.co.uk/[country-code]/ as many other sites do. [1]: htt

You can look at French hiking maps online at https://www.geoportail.gouv.fr/carte - I find it works well for planning a route and then I use OSM when I'm actually doing the hike.

You can absolutely spend $1000 on Tridactyl if you want [1] :) The main reason Tridactyl is still developed is because some people pay for it. Without them, I wouldn't be able to afford to. [1]: https://github.com/spons

When you short a share, you borrow a share from someone who owns it and sell that share to someone else. If the person who bought the shorted share lends it to someone else to short, one share has been shorted twice.

I don't think this is is true for the official Mozilla builds (except for Nightly, Beta and unbranded). It's possible that your distro has a custom build that allows the setting. Arch builds Firefox with `--allow-addon-sideload` w

You can use unbranded builds which are pretty much identical to the stable releases but let you use unsigned extensions. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Add-ons/Extension_Signing#Unbranded...
