But isn't that Elvis? Or is your argument that Elvis's appeal wasn't as wide as the 1964 Beatles Mania? Or do you believe it's the difference that a decade makes? Kids born post war were only at most 10 when Elvis rose

That's been my setup for the last decade (currently a pair of U2720Q monitors). macOS unfortunately does a worse job with "font smoothing" when using the monitors vertically, but it's fine. The main downside is that sinc

Maybe they originally had "to be viewed correctly" and then someone else found this insulting to their editor's pen, resulting in a "when viewed" but leaving the "correctly".

This depends on the state. In California, there isn't a separate "tipped minimum wage". Waiters in San Francisco thus make at least $16.32/hr ($16.99 starting in July) plus tips. Some restaurants are trying to replace ti

The Bay Bridge faults have non-trivially been blamed (rightly or wrongly is unclear) on Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company who provided a lot of the materials [1]. The Wikipedia article doesn't talk about the steel itself (surpr

Beyond the mentioned "lots of energy use is actually gas for us", I think you likely have a bug in your calculations. Did you calculate this based on your expenses and back into usage, or directly from usage? (Or are you saying 10

Actually, the marginal tax rate on $1M in California is over 50% (37 federal plus 13.3 state). For 200k (euros), that's $250k or so which is 35% federal (single filer), 9.3% California for 44.3%. (Which I would argue isn't that fa

You don't find the lack of brightness to be an issue? Both of these monitors only hit 280 nits. I do find that the intersection of size, resolution, and brightness is nearly empty. I have a pair of U2720Qs, but would love something mor

I don't remember if it's a quote from Kahneman or Tversky, but I always liked the idea of asking "Hmm. That's not right, but what is it true of?" instead. [IIRC, it's mentioned in Thinking, Fast and Slow ].

The (stochastic) order-independent transparency and k-buffer line of work is definitely cool for what it was. I get the sense that RTX will finally make it so that folks are going to end up just ray tracing the transparent volumes (even if

You're thinking of "direct listings" (and even then, Morgan Stanley has done several of them). SPACs are actually fairly inefficient and usually give large windfalls to the SPAC sponsors .

You skipped the T4 which was in between Volta and Ampere, as well as the P100 between K80 and V100. So I'd say "meaningful chip changes" is closer to every 18 months. The T4 though isn't a "big part", but for p
