I can't really say I agree with you. There are a lot of good books on the subject, there are a lot of great tutorial sites (free) on the web (look at scott stevenson's work, or cocoa is my girlfriend, or CocoaDev). The mailing lists are pre

Well, those benchmarks are over a year and a half old, and the JS engine in webkit has improved by probably a factor of 10 since then. iPhone 3.0's JavaScript will probably be a mere 10 to 20 times slower than Obj-C, which is actually prett

Apple doesn't release simple things because they wanted to ship as fast as possible. In fact, I'd say Apple behaves in the opposite fashion. They take as long as necessary to release something intentionally simple. Arguably the iPhone start

Who says that drag and drop, or context menus, need to fail? And why would any sane user, who's spent the last 15 years getting used to the way desktop software works, want to switch to a completely different, entirely text based user inter

That's a big maybe. I'd wager that a small percentage of the people who use bit.ly to shorten links are actually using the metrics. And I agree that bit.ly could probably be cloned trivially. There's no network effect, so there's no real re

Why did it get killed? It is certainly more interesting than a lot of the stuff that gets posted from TechCrunch. Poorly written or not, it's an interesting opinion. I think WebKit is going to kill Gecko.

You have glanced the side of an interesting point: what comes out of data driven design is not art. Great design, the kind of work that people obsess over Apple for (at its best), cannot be made that way. Great design is art; it is expressi

well, it's holding on to an active connection during that timeout, right? if it were much higher, you could quickly eat up all your available connections. on the flip side, for something low traffic that may not be an issue.

Any time you ever need to map an object to another object, you need this functionality. Without a memory address, object's don't have any other unique values associated with them. It's actually a pretty fundamental problem. Of course, like

Firefox has some serious issues on Linux. It's admirable that they make a browser for Linux, but they do seem to let a lot more fall through the cracks than on other platforms. For example, I've seen several websites that crash Linux in Fir

Sinatra is definitely an interesting project. We recently "ported" it to JavaScript: http://github.com/tlrobinson/jack/blob/030685ef3de4c29c38b4e... The same webservice would be: roundabout.route({ path:"/add/{a}/{b}", get: function

I don't think being interpreted matters. It may make your immediate development cycle faster, but that says nothing about long term development. I imagine the Scala guys would argue heavily that being compiled is a huge advantage to the pow

I'd like to know what argument you would make to claim Objective-C isn't a "high level language". Despite the fuzziness of the term, I think Objective-C would meet most any bar that didn't specifically require the language to be interpreted
