It was surprising that Kleppman's book was mentioned only at the very end of the article, but at least it came with an understandable caveat. That book is incredible - although in all honesty it does require solid foundation of distr

About the density of a technical drawing paper, IIRC. Our school had those metallic optical mouse mats back in 1990. I distinctly remember that some of the lines were blue, but there were silvery lines in a finer pattern between them.

It's not just the money, it's all the things around using corporate money. Procurement is its own level of hell. Dealing with (or even having to think about) vendors' sales critters is a drain on brain cycles. The frustrati

I'd settle for a Markdown import. You could do your editing and writing of raw text in whatever you feel happy with, and then have gdocs transform it to its supposedly native format on upload. Gdocs would then really only need to suppo

Perception, yes. Being on top of the CPI tells nothing about how well the country is doing. It merely highlights how bad the situation is even for the runner-up.

I don't try to claim it's easy in any way, but for me it is a thing to aspire for. Nuance takes time and space. So does conveying context. Nonetheless, if there is a way to compress the core of the message into just seven words, I

I've taken Feynman's rule as the guiding star of all communication: if you can not explain your point of view understandably, you do not understand it well enough yourself. (Implication: shut the f##k up until you do, and can.) I&

Possibly a side effect from S3's eventual consistency model. Until couple of years ago there was no guarantee that an object you had written to S3 would be visible to another process looking for it. About two years ago AWS made a big a

The truly sad thing is, there was a killer form factor for phones. N900. Full touchscreen, with a slide-out physical keyboard. It wasn't a perfect device, far from it. The details of the form factor were still off: the device was too

The correct term for this recurring abuse of end users is "Stockholm Syndrome". Finns have an age-old saying about the same thing. Loosely translated... At first it hurts. Then you get used to it. And then you start to like it.
