I dabble in UI and just started a new next project and it really kind of sucks now. What do you recommend?

Agreed. I live in US and it’s so bizarre that people walk around with rifles on their back.

CA is insanely expensive, however I left AZ and came here to a very beautiful city. I don’t regret it, but I won’t be here long term. It truly is a place for the ultra wealthy, at least where I’m at. My partner and I bring in around $350k a

For any folks who appreciate old UNIX things, check out Unix a history and memoir. It’s written by the one and only - Kernighan and he talks about people like Aho. Awesome book

Are some of these accounts fake? Ie - I see questions for a YouTube channel that has no videos and 2 subscribers. I doubt people would actually ask this channel questions let alone pay to do so. Correct me off I’m wrong. Either way, not a b

How do people think jobs in more complex backend, large-scale distributed systems roles will do in the near to distant future?

Ironically saying to use a monolith an on-prem servers would never allow you to pass an interview. Not sure why the default is to add insane auto load balancing redundancy with sharding, per service isolation and Kafka as a default for most

Lentils, much like most legumes, have a neat trick up their sleeve. They partner with root bacteria to capture nitrogen from the air and stash it underground. This not only gives the legumes a nutrient boost but also helps the soil retain m

I was just thinking about this on a walk this evening. Life is weird as hell and I find it rare to meet others that share a similar viewpoint

I’m sure I appreciate a lot of what Stallman has done for me directly and indirectly, but this dude is intense about computer usage to the point where the extremism is a bit much for me to admire

Lots of weird opinion in this statement, maybe insecurity from never getting your degree? Software has proven to automate things just as important as “real engineering” in many fields. Hospitals, power grids, entire financial systems.

This is very buggy. I submitted a pic and it never finished. Mobile UX is pretty poor with minimal user feedback. The footer has a typo on the word conditions. Cool idea, needs work

Same here! The UX is so bad on both I just can’t use either. Not hard to quit when usability sucks and I find other things to do… like read or go outside.

I also use searxng as my primary search engine protected by Authelia on a remote server. This way, the IP logged is my throwaway homelab using certs from Let’s encrypt. It’s pretty nice overall and takes not too much RAM (350mb?).

Not sure what kind of places you work at, but my entire team is distributed and we are all young and consistently working 10-12 hours a day. Plus I live on the beach! When I worked in an office I worked way less and got way more distracted

This is neat. How does it compare to Cloudflare Workers? I’ve been thinking about building a tool like this for fun. Does the code run inside a Docker container? I’ve been looking at Firecracker VMs for sandboxing which seems pretty cool

Go is great for networking. If you’re interested in tunnels and Ngrok, the original repo is easy to read. Maybe build a chat app with TCP and UDP. Deploy it on a VM behind a reverse proxy like NGINX. Run the app in Docker or on the VM and s
