If only there was a world where the bussinesses didn't talk to each other so they wouldn't collude or fix prices, or join/buy their competition.

+1 for LLVM ORC, it's really powerful but also very easy to use. There is a simple tutorial in C++ which is a great intro to it.

This feels like you are describing julia, startup cost included :).

I imagine it has to do with the fact that lots of python libraries are mostly c/c++ or fortran, while Julia packages are usually just Julia.

They do auto correction while parsing. If you have a C code and forget a semicolon or something else. It will try to guess a way to fix it in order to parse the rest of the program, in order to give you other possible errors it found. There

Reactive power losses due to the cable's inductance are probably the largest factor in the efficiency boost of using DC. Also you can use a somewhat higher voltage since you don't have to account for the AC peak, it does mean howe

So 3090 price for 3060 performance, doesn't sound very promising. I wish we could exploit those gpus easier for compute, but compute with metal is simply not there, at least for now.

I agree there is a lot of survivorship bias, but it seems like every triple AAA game that releases is an unfun buggy mess. It feels like they like passion and have become too corporate. Like they focused on what features the game has to hav

I wonder if you hit the drive hard enough, so that the cache gets filled, does the performance degrade by that same magnitude?

Julia does take inspiration from Dylan and Scheme(the parser is even written in it) so it makes sense I guess

The idea, I imagine, is to differentiate what the julia ML stack offers over what is already on python, if it offers the same thing, but without the funding from facebook or google, why bother switching? It has to offer something more.

OBS is GPLv2 so I don't think it would get to that level. Tho if the other GPL code is v3 then who knows.

They were greedy and put profit over game quality and were on down for a while. They haven't released a good game in years, and the WoW expansions have been a lot more miss than hit. But the harassment is what finished it for me. Shame

Whether we like or not, streamers are very influential to the gaming community, all of the games that blew up in the pandemic (among us, fall guys...) Blew up because of streaming.

Atleast inside the mmo community streamers are very relevant. On the start of july a famous streamer started playing FFXIV and look at google trends https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=%2Fm%2F064ln09

While people discuss a lot about it, in the end 1 indexing doesn't really matter. I think it comes from fortran/matlab.

Julia has a JIT compiler but it doesn't store the compiled code between sessions. This can add a delay on the first time you call a function. By keeping the REPL open you can avoid having these delays multiple times.

Julia does this in a pretty simple way, you type \lamdba then press tab and it becomes λ, emojis and many other things work like this, so typing them is very wasy.

People think that. amd64 and x86 today mean the same thing, C and C++ not quite. I've also seen HR people think that java and javascript are the same thing.
