I am not aware of any other game using the variant with odd/even mode, nor of any documentation of how the blitting worked. Maybe someone should ask Arjan about the source code that he mentioned on stackexchange. :)

No, it's not. Keen 1 was a 16 color game; 16 color games pack 8 pixels in a byte and spread the color information across 4 planes. Accessing the different planes requires programming the video card's registers and there isn't

Jazz Jackrabbit employs some really unique VGA programming to do fast blitting. Relatively many people are familiar with linear mode (64K of usable memory, fast blitting but no double buffering) and mode X (256K memory, complicated or slow

Author of "All you need to know about KVM userspace" here! I am happy that you liked it. Some things have changed since then, some have not... Red Hat is now shipping Kata Containers, which does not (much to my dismay) use Libvirt

The article removes all the smart features (not just the annoying ones) and requires pretty serious knowledge of analog electronics. Probably it doesn't fit the bill for the parent comment.

A lot of levels in the conversions were created specifically and are not in the arcade version. An Italian programmer, Aladar, did a comprehensive reverse engineering of the Bubble Bobble arcade code in order to port the best 100 of those l

The Great Giana Sisters was a legitimate game though—while the gameplay was obviously almost identical to Super Mario Bros, code wise it was technically very advanced as far as C64 games went. The way you phrased it seems like it was a boot

The sum of the first n cubes is always the square of the sum of numbers from 1 to n. For example 1³+2³+3³+4³=(1+2+3+4)². You can prove it by induction; just expand (n(n+1)/2)² – (n(n-1)/2)², the result is n³.

Interesting. Yeah, being able to use Arm flags always is probably a big thing, since they even added hardware support for that. It's a huge achievement for a single person to have written most of that.

QEMU loses a bit from being a generic translator instead of being specialized for x86->ARM like Rosetta 2, Box64 or FEXEmu. It does a lot of spilling for example even though x86 has a lot fewer registers than aarch64. Flags are also tric

The compiler is free to give a meaning to memcpy if run in the (default) hosted mode. There's -ffreestanding for freestanding environments.
