Yeah, the linked article feels like someone at cnbc is paid to come up with anything that will get clicks (I wrote that sentence kind of jokingly, but thinking about it now, of course they have exactly that) and it worked great this time.

Fun related fact: Neal Stephenson's involvement in Long Now also led to ideas in Anathem. Excellent book, which has a fun long term clock idea in it. http://longnow.org/events/02008/sep/09/anathem-

I got excited and clicked to see why so many people in China are avoiding proprietary closed IM networks and using IRC instead. Bummer, not what I thought :) http://www.irchelp.org/clients/unix/weechat.html

As a backer of the Purism Librem 5, it's nice to see some funding money for Matrix.org, especially after their recent financial troubles. Good stuff!

I think and early version of the enhancements on Android are available in 58, and can be enabled by using the search bar to enter `layout.css.servo.enabled` and then switching it on.

Sorry for the confusion; I didn't mean to group those together. I meant that I'd lost sight of other nice features with all the excitement of Firefox performance lately.

I've gotten into a habit of checking into all the performance boosts on Firefox release, but I almost missed the best feature of the release: Tracking Protection! It's buried under Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> T

I'm similarly worried about it not working out in the end (perhaps because they have my money now!), but the part that most gives me hope is that these guys have already worked out how to run a successful open hardware business at lowe

Obviously someone saying "This thing I profit from you doing is not bad!" is not credible, but the fact that they even had to say this is progress. I think the takeaway here is to hold people/companies accountable and they h

I assumed Go would be high on the list due to the fact that they have full control over it (avoiding Oracle and their lawyers) and it has good performance. I agree that Kotlin is probably a better language for writing Android apps. Having

When saw post my first thought was "I knew it! Google's been working on avoiding Java/Oracle and planning to let us write apps in golang all this time. Here it is!" Wrong "Go" it seems.

This sounds nice. I have an older phone and don't care about shiny things. Does anyone know if this will be available to install on regular Android phones (not just those from "partners")?

This is a great point. A lot of focus seems to be placed on beating Chrome. As long as browsers have about the same performance, then the other differences start to matter a lot, and that's where having an independent (default search

The use case for this is that you want to leave your gmail/youtube/etc all logged in, but not let Google track you all over the internet. My primary use for this feature is this specific use case. I created a "Google Spywar
