Adblock/uBlock works great. If you want to experience the web as it is, then yeah I agree, it sucks. No one has really figured out how to monetize content without ads yet because people won't pay for it, so thats where we are.

This is a highly personal decision, so this is just my 2c. Yes. Its the only thing worth anything. Nothing in this world is stable. Your boss will fire you if you cant perform. Your friends may move away or change. Some will try to use you,

Call me an a hole, but I really think that web dev does not require nearly as much deep knowledge of computers as an engineer working on lower levels of the stack. Each web app usually solves the same tired problems again: interface with a

Dude, this is half the point of redux. Theres a debugger that lets you visually step through every state of the store and your corresponding app - https://github.com/gaearon/redux-devtools

I think its possible with perpendicular lines that arent axis-aligned. An m=1 line on a 4:3 aspect ratio will look like an m=0.75 line.

If you can write very pure code, mocking is not needed. For example, a function for a database call could return a closure of what to do given a cursor into the database, or a SQL query which can be tested. The side-effecting functions them

I have also had a little mismatch with upstart for a particular application - the app itself spawns new processes in response to user input, but upstart can only track the main app not the children. I am curious - precisely knowing when an

This brought up an interesting question - how much paper is recycled vs trashed? Atleast in the US, 67% of paper was recycled in 2013. So 2/3rd isn't burned or compacted. Thats pretty impressive.

Hey - i'm a recent CS grad so this may be naive.. but heres the easiest possible solution - export all the data from the old system, and throw it into a Google Docs Spreadsheet - google apps is free for education. [1] Thats the simples

I'm assuming 2 things - 1. The data is accessed by people, so an 50ms of latency doesn't matter so much for most purposes. Writes/modifications are infrequent so even a global lock when writing would be ok. 2. You have about

This may be useless, but here is how I would do it. Its kind of related to the "kernel" idea in that I try to discover the heart of the problem a technology solves, what the traditional problems are and how a given technology over

This is great! Inspired me to make a little script in spark-shell: > val words = oxforddict. filter{case s => s.exists(_.isLetter) && s.forall(Character.isUpperCase(_))}. distinct.

I think the act of receiving a high bonus as a proxy of your bosses satisfaction is the most valuable part of the performance bonus for some people. For others, the money is the motivator. Works out well both ways.

Similarly, Clojure got no types. Which makes it infinitely less runtime-safe then any language with types. Takes a more nuanced argument.

I haven't, but I can imagine "why can't this be done faster?" becoming a tactic to intimidate people into working long hours to meet unrealistic deadlines that keep shrinking. Hopefully thats not the case at Upstart.

The concurrency model seems to be the same as threads. Since JS doesn't have threads, thats great, but claiming that "let you write asynchronous code as if it were synchronous." is a little much. Try mutating shared state asy

Both storing an item and finding one is O(n) with this approach. With audio + search, storing is O(n) (but a much smaller constant factor of talking vs writing), and lookup is O(1)! :)

I know very little about physics, but it doesn't seem all that weird given that the universe having "a beginning" depends on some notion of time, but time is a construct that exists only within the universe.
