In the mid 90s I had the dubious pleasure of being asked to repair a series of TEMPEST certified computers: standard Zenith 8086 clones (well, as standard as a Zenith got anyway) inside a massive steel chassis with all inputs/outputs w

Yeah, I bought the DAVx/ICSx pair (as well as CalDAV-Sync and CardDAV-Sync pair) to get Android syncing. I found it more understandable than when configuring Fastmail on iOS given the way Fastmail makes you (or made when I initially s

I didn't see an app for CalDAV/CardDAV syncing on the list. Perhaps that's so fundamental it doesn't need mentioning?

Eh, not always. SGI used MIPS to make big servers (and supercomputer clusters) back in the day - although I only ever got to play with an Origin 200[0] and the little Indy that was its console. More cost-effective than Sun hardware at the

So the latest Firefox broke that for me. It seems to front-run my URLs as I type them and if the result is a 404 it sends me over to DDG with my URL as the search. :/ Really, really obnoxious but I haven't taken the time yet to

Reminds me of [Bob Stout's Snippets]( https://github.com/vonj/snippets.org ). I used his collection often back when I were a lad.

Most often these days, distros ship with filesystem extended attributes enabled (though you might have to add the user_xattr flag to the mount options to be able to actually use them).

Ctrl-Z in unix puts your app to sleep so you can background it or kill it via the `kill` command. I find on badly saturated connections (accidentally running a command that produces tons and tons of output) that I can often suspend a comma

Thanks for the pointer to that project. Hopefully I won't have to do another of these off-the-cuff throwaways again (which means I won't have to leave the comfort-zone of virtualenv on Linux), but if I do, I now know where to find the kitc
