No, and I don't know where you got that from. "Troll" is rapidly coming to mean "person who behaves offensively, abusively or objectionably online". Of course the Guardian will have a different definition of what th

This is as tedious a fight as the old "hacker doesn't mean cracker!1!" one was. Words (and phrases such as "begging the question") mean what they're understood to mean by the majority, much though those of us w

There's no irony in this being posted on Medium, with a clean, beautiful, simple, elegant design? Should have done it on one of those tiny-fonted 1998 Blogger templates.

What Nest is doing is little different to Reader or the other products Google killed. Alphabet is the common link and is clearly OK with this behaviour.

With System 7.1 you could run WannaBe ( http://mindstory.com/wb2/ ) which I'd love to use again (I used it a lot in the dying days of OS 9 when any modern sites would kill a browser). It'd also need MacTCP, but

I haven't hammered this point home because I've lost the graph, but have absolutely seen one breaking down user growth month by month, and there's a clear turning point around about August 2014 — which is of course the month

I think a social network is slightly different from the other companies where that argument applies. The Internet was a fun place with 300m people on it, but growth made it better. Same with Facebook. People bring problems, but in general n

The price reflects the future prospects of Twitter, and a poorly-monetised Twitter with a shrinking user base is worth less than a poorly-monetised Twitter with a booming user base. Put another way, they used to be hosting a huge party and

I've just gone through some pain to downgrade from iTunes 12 to iTunes 10 and can't believe I've been putting up with such crap for so long. iTunes 10 is so much better and so much easier it's ridiculous.

I love this. There used to be a TextMate plugin for Mac browsers that did the same thing (well, without the live sync). Am going to use this for some aged web forms at work that have pretty hostile UX and that I often c&p into rather th
