The "advantage" for pensions is that they get to "keep the principal" (unless it's setup even more insane than normally) whereas with a 401(k) the residual gets inherited.

Mikrotik is "quite low level" if you want it to be (it reminds me somewhat of old Cisco IOS) but it works great. And even if you're a bit scared of manual configurations, the web GUI and Claude understand it pretty well.

Latin (and other "old" languages) can still be found in various ways and places, though that starts to get deep into it, as the "New Catholic Mass" can be said in any language, one of which is Latin.

I just wanted to use my CRS305-1G-4S+IN without spending more on SPF modules than I did on the cards/switch.

WoW was a big part of it but times were changing without it - and in-person WoW raids showed up now and then (40 man raids with 40 people in one room is a site to see). The real killer is that many WoW players did NOT play with "local

There's two LAN parties - the small group of friends (4 to 10, say) where you'd mostly be playing the same game, but as it progressed people would drop off or split up (we ended up with one small group playing a Heroes III comp-st

Main advantage for me was saving the cost of the SPF (surprisingly pricey f ^ #%rs) on each end.

I did similar with the Mikrotik CRS305-1G-4S+IN and some surplus eBay gear. The nice thing is the NAS and my MacBook dock both have 10G and are connected - and it’s noticeable.

90% of the time I ask a question of a coworker that could be googled or clauded what I’m actually asking for is their confirmation that they agree with the answer. So use the AI, but at least read the reply and/or reword it so it’s cle

The church Latin used in “the Latin Mass” is relatively simple and pretty easy to learn; and it’s very rare to find one that does the readings and homily in Latin; most of those are in English (or the local language) even at an FSSP parish.

You can either do it where the safe areas are just super dark, raytracing be damned, or you can do it where even if there is light, and you're clearly "visible" as long as you stay below a certain light level, everything is f

You can subscribe to uber for discounts, priority, upgrades and maybe cheaper Uber Eats? I’ve not bothered past one free trial but if you use it regularly maybe it’s worth it.

Day passes are there to make the monthly look good. And if the average user goes to the gym twice a month, they’re optimal for the average. But day passes force you to admit this and be sad, whereas if you have a monthly pass you can be hap

You also basically have to assume any and all repairs and upgrades were done crappy, the absolute opposite of what you’d want, and probably didn’t fix anything, either. Which means that good deals are out there, if you’re willing to search

The government should build simple cheap houses, and “rent to own” them to people, thereby instilling a baseline.

The sweet spot is a landlord who used to live in the house and still considers it “theirs” and trusts you as a steward, so they repair quickly (or even trust you to get the repairs done and send them the bill) and don’t want to deal with va

Basically, if you can rent in a place that landlords start suffering, you’re going to do well. And if you buy in a place where renters start suffering, you’ll do well. Every decision is easy when you have the future data now, which you neve

Nothing, it’s a 5% bobcat problem. The card processors can force the merchants to eat it and there’s nothing you can do save not accepting cards, which loses you the other 95% of the market. https://xkcd.com/325/

I mean the quick and sarcastic answer (which has some truth to it) is that the "left" doesn't have kids for the bouncy castle, so why waste the money on it? Perhaps a ball pit?

Let's say we own a company with 10 shares, I own one share, you own 4, and 5 are owned by others. Each share is worth $100 (to make it simple). The company has $100 "to spare" - they could pay a dividend (give me $10, you $40

It is possible to find weird inversions where it never makes sense to buy - prices are too high and rents are too low. CA has these places, where property tax arbitrage by renters can be less than the new property tax would be if sold.
