The plugin system is a disaster in this project. Basically, each "plugin" is just a Lua script that can (and often does) modify absolutely anything in the editor, including core data structures and other plugins. The original Lite

Say your program requires some static data stored as XML files that link to each other (e.g. XLink), you need to convert them into a different in-memory representation, and then compile them into an object file for embedding into the binary

> Perhaps you shed some light on what the better build systems are? To clarify, I mean "better" for complex tasks. Build systems are just tools like any other, meaning they're good at some things, but bad at others. CMake

The ugly syntax is mostly a maintenance issue, but the real problem is that CMake doesn’t expose all of the internal build system “machinery” that you need to build something complex or performant. Take waf for example: it’s effectively a P

If you need custom build functions like that, neither Meson nor CMake are a good choice. If you have complicated build logic, you'd be better off with something more advanced, like scons, waf, bazel, ant, buck, etc.

Yeah I don't see the value proposition of Meson to be all that compelling. It's basically just CMake, but with a different DSL. I've never had a problem with modern CMake, and whatever minor productivity benefits there might

While not designed to be a system package manager, Conan works in a very similar way for C/C++ package management, and it's great. All binary packages live in the cache folder, identified by a hash of the particular permutation of

Why would error-handling code impact performance? Besides, exceptions in C++ are known to have negative impacts on overall performance even if you don't use them. (see: https://preshing.com/20110807/the-cost-of-ena

This is awesome! I only recently started using Obsidian and have been liking it a lot, especially since there's even a (rough but usable) drawing/sketching plugin so I can kind of get the same experience as I used to have with One

I'd guess that some software is stuck on Power, so a bigger multi-core chip for those cases is probably cheaper than both porting to x86, or buying a higher tier Oracle license.

Typescript is a bandaid. We need improved DOM access for web assembly, followed by a new icon in the URL bar that indicates you're on a "legacy" site if it's using javascript (my vote is for a cute snail emoji)

I don't love the idea of implementing common app state logic via attributes. It probably works a lot better than I'm assuming, but it feels hacky to me. Like it can't solve every problem you'd actually encounter when mak
