A classic “save the children” argument of security. I know you aren’t making it but i have heard people argue this too many times over the years.

I wonder how much time discussing if something is or isn’t a CVE has wasted. As and end user if you don’t have a script that causes an exploit for a given CVE i don’t care. I have had to patch too many systems from hypothetical issues ASAP!

I’m sick of paying 5k a year myself and close to 20k counting my employer for a doctor to see me for 20 minutes, ignore everything i say, and then prescribe some shit without explaining anything. Additionally seeing how my wife is treated b

Some people like talking about things not related to their job when they aren’t working. The culture out in SV is very much still “work is life”.

Very likely. For context im 33 and mostly hang around people from 28 to 38 range. Although I also notice a different attitude with the new devs that we hire who are 24 to 26.

This is something i think has been slowly changing in the US. At least among the people i know. Work is now just work. Five years ago it had to be your passion it is what you wanted or at least i wanted to be defined by. After seeing how li

I love reading this stuff. 2010 is when i found out about bitcoin and wanting to learn about it was what took me from someone who played around on linux to someone who could write software and then ended up finishing a CS degree after. Read

Windows tries to improve the developer experience… why not call it wudo or something funny since devex on windows is obviously a joke.

I would like to think so but i saw the same crap driving through the middle of a Denver on I70 recently. I almost had to pull over it was so bright I couldn’t see but no one did anything as I have become accustomed to.

The volume today is 22 billion. 2 billion in downwards pressure would lower the price but it’s really not a huge deal. Most deals like that are not done on the open market though.

It is not that easy as using the AWS WAF with default rules for our application led to many valid requests and IPs being blocked. You need to know what is being blocked and verify at first or you will in some cases be losing customers.

All i needed to know about the quality of software gitlab ships can be found in using their CI system on any half decent size project. You can tell it was half baked with many bugs and edge cases that can be easily avoided. When you look at

I cant find anything of even half decent quality for a large sofa under 7k. Im not at all surprised i have been shopping around for months now with the hopes of finding something that will last in the 5k range but have yet to see it.

The amount of times i had to fight and debug systemd compared to any other init system is at least 10x. Yes it does a lot of stuff for you and in others I had to write custom scripts but it was much more understandable and maintainable long

And also produces so much waste since almost no one writing python thinks at all about performance leading to some of the dumbest looking architectures i have seen to scale up to even a small amount of requests.

At least in the US i haven’t seen many people who treat work like a game not treat life like a game. For example often times it’s clear the motivation for hanging out with them is networking. Then they get to work and tell you how building

I assume with the duck typing you are talking about interfaces? How has that caused issues? With huge projects that pull in packages i have seen the dependency management become a mess but most of the time its not that bad.
