I think the problem of where to put them stems from having applications as an MVC 'stack', as jrockway said in a sibling thread. Assuming that there is only one input/output point in a web-app is not very realistic. It seems that these appl

It's a great idea, we were doing that at my old company a few years ago. It also means that you have fewer problems with migrations when pushing them out to production.

I just parsed that as "a hazard of social networkers", similar to a pride of lions or pod of dolphins. (Sorry, it's not really relevant to your comment)

Look into VoIP. A specific system probably doesn't really exist yet, but you/your friend might be able to cobble something together. Or an auto-answering skype client?

I was going to write exactly the same thing, but you've put it more eloquently than I could. Also, it would seem to me that just "writing more test-cases" wouldn't get one very far as the tests are going to be as sloppy as the original work

It seems to be what side of the picture the person is in. (I thought it was left/right handedness too at first, and was curious how one could be 30% left handed!)

I like. I'd also be really impressed if this wasn't an intentional easter egg, but was an emergent property of the "did you mean" feature itself.

Seems to be a lot of hate on this trick here. One difference between this trick and "I just press <shortcut key> in my IDE" is that this will comment out one block of code, but will also uncomment a second block at the same time .

I suspect that would be a gamma difference with OSX, not an artifact of the screen quality. If you look at windows computers, the lighter greys are generally a bit darker than the same colour on a mac.

Sparkle ( http://sparkle.andymatuschak.org/ ) seems to be becoming a de-facto standard on OSX, and I'd say it does a pretty good job when judged against the points in the article. I think the update-at-shutdown isn't such a great idea, mos

As far as I know, that's because the Skype call isn't actually routed over the data connection, it transfers the voice via the existing voice network and the other end is hooked into a Skype gateway. [Citation Needed] but I don't have time

if it takes more than 5 minutes for the other programmer to have a high level idea of the design, assume that the code is not readable. I'd argue that a high-level description of the system being easy to grasp is kind-of orthogonal to whe
