> I've had people tell me that they would love to write a book, but, well, the existing tools are not sufficient enough. That’s hilarious. Humans were hand writing books on paper and giving them to other humans to hand write copies.

Specific tags are good to carve out communities as they really are in academia. I work in materials science, which there is a tag for, but I work in a super narrow slice of materials (it’s a broad field) and I imagine many others are the sa

One piece of feedback I have is to be careful with tagging. What is physics to a biologist [1] is probably not physics to a physicist. If you want communities to build around this hub, then you need to be careful about flooding a small comm

In my experience, most people are too afraid to enter the initial `?` in the command line for fear of breaking something. I imagine many would be afraid to do anything with the rench for the same reason. Also, people new to programming and

One thing that seems strange to me is that the cost of living is high, but so many things we buy are priced the same. No matter how high cost of living is, a MacBook Pro starts at the same price whether you’re making a measly 100k in the Ba

One of the keys to learning is making students engage in the material and to fix their mistakes. Computers are uniquely able to give individual, rapid feedback. Even at the advanced level it would be really cool for students to have access

FWIW, this has gotten better. It used to be that you could only use the Xcode simulator when developing iOS apps and had to have the $99 developer account to put apps on real provisioned devices. Now you only need to pay to put the app on t

I forgot about Magic. I almost want to have emacs open in parallel just to have my projects open in Magit. You never have to tweak it and it’s more effective than anything else.

It has been this way even before the current climate. I think it’s more a gender roles thing. Women are seen culturally as caretakers and pre-K and K “education” has a significant babysitting/caretaking role.
