I had a similar challenge and ended up using ElasticSearch in a thoroughly denormalized data format Allowed me the flexibility of stateful (contextual) queries etc. Bit of a hack, but served my purpose. Hope that helps.

couldn't we have a webcam to stream/record the video? or perhaps capture snapshots? If needed we might subtract the human from the video stream using some basic machine vision techniques.

I suspect you are on a BUsiness (B-1?) visa and what you propose to do, even if no cash exchanges hands is considered compensation and therefore employment. As others have pointed out, you could end up in serious trouble with US immigration
