I think the level of complexity is so different between these two examples that we perceive them as conceptually separate, but it is still possible that in absolute terms the same laws are being applied. It could be that as humans we do not

The book this article is excerpted from ("Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions") looks interesting; I'm thinking of buying it. Has anyone read it / does anyone have an opinion about it?

That may be true for countries with online payments that actually work, but keep in mind that for many third-world countries the jump from $0 to $0.001 is hard, since people often do not have any way to perform an online payment.

I like the UI, and the idea is useful. Something's broken with the website though. Clicking on the bluehost vs. Hostgate vs. GoDaddy.com comparison gives me this: Server Error in '/' Application. Object reference not set

I don't think I understand your reasoning. You're already tolerating an AI processing your email to produce the ads, so assuming that, why does a cool new feature push you closer towards a "dumber" service?
