I don't think there is a need to have someone's reputation score to use their software. There are plenty of pieces of open source software running on operating systems that were contributed by people who are effectively anonymous.

I only use my kindle to read books I didn't pay for. There are plenty of books from the past without copyright restrictions! Think about all the catching up you could do! Also, you can read pirated books on your kindle device.
