Yeah, it didn't matter that it was cheap because you still had to install it and most people even today don't modify the OS their PC comes with. I think BeOS had a restriction that they legally couldn't sell computers because

Actually, it sounds like they only just decided to use it in the future once Swift 6 is released. I would guess much of it will still be in C++ for a while.

From what I can tell. I've not used Tauri and it's been years since I've tried flutter. Tauri currently has poor support for mobile and Linux (because of the state of WebkitGtk). Flutter uses Dart which is not widely used for

I wonder if I can use this to learn a large c++ codebase like Chromium. One of the issues I had trying to learn chromium was that in order to play and experiment with their classes/functions I needed to spend several minutes to link my

Note for people wanting to use vscode for c or c++ development. The clangd extension* is provides much better code completion and jump to definition compared to the default c/c++ extension. * https://marketplace.visualstudio

I think you might be onto something with the observation about people moving from old forum software like phpbb to subreddits. It's like what happened to personal websites when things like Blogger, Tumblr and Facebook popped up. It

I would assume Object Oriented Programming isn't very important in games. In fact I think there might be a aversion to it now. As an aside I've been thinking lately that OOP isn't very well defined unlike FP. I think that

Well it is a Webkit bug. Epiphany/Gnome Web has the same issue. All they could do is either fix whats been broken in the Gtk port of Webkit for years or to start from scratch and use Chromium instead. Neither option is one that a small

That's only fine if you just care about the Web as a software platform. What about security vulnerabilities? What about having choices in browsers? What happens when Google decides they are finally ready to deprecate manifest v2?

Forking chromium or Firefox or using Webkit plus adding the missing components and fixing broken ones is also not cheap. Again, maintenance is expensive. That is after you find (or train) the people who can reason about those codebases. Whe

That doesn't really solve the problem. It will involve many many many many hours of development to get to the point where it's a viable alternative and if it ever does eventually reach that state, it will require lots of lots of h

We are in a situation today where no one can realistically make a competing implementation for Chromium/Webkit/Firefox and at the same time only a company with a large amount of money can afford from and maintain those codebases.

My comment wasn't about comparing it to Rust at all. Adwaita for Swift sounds good an all but it still looks immature. Also, the win32 bindings look even more immature. I agree UI is not there yet for Rust and from what I see it's
