Having now been in China for several weeks this beating the drum trying to make americans feel guilty (and give power over to other people) is absolutely absurd. You want to control pollution the first places to start are china and india.

The apple hardware: crap keyboard, any slight usage leads to blaring fans and immediate thermal throttling. Options mean end users could actually pick something that fits their needs and not have to live with what Apple thinks YOU need.

Lack of competition in the Apple ecosystem, plain and simple. I think people know this before making the jump. Or they work for a company that forces them into choosing between a windows or osx laptop. I'm in this crowd and I have n

Speed of compilation, not necessarily speed of compiled code. Missing generics: deadly. Passing around just interfaces? At times clearly not sufficient. Their idea of closures? Looks messy to me. Having a special syntax just for threa

That's pretty much modern c++ coding. But more templatization (since there are no interfaces) at this point...

I have a big monitor and fit 4 80 wide terms side by side quite nicely with a bit of room to spare (34" ultrawide 1440 monitor).

no, it's not. bigger deal is that single letter vars make it much harder to search for variable usage in files using arbitrary editors.

Clickhouse, a Russian product, seems to index dramatically better than splunk. Add with grafana, etc and you can build a useable and dramatically faster logging platform. Feature parity?

I have had issues at times in the past but with things like core dumps on systems with spinning disk and 128gb ram. The OOM on linux can be brutally frustrating. But it's still light years ahead of windows for development...

my experience with windows is that it freezes the whole desktop under moderately multithreaded loads.

No they won't. Apple made specific choices NOT to do what the whole industry had already been doing: making repairable systems.

looks loke the api would really shine if coded with c++ constructors and destructors. maybe rvalue ref would help too.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try this since this morning one of my desktops had set all its terms to 72 wide, another to 74 & 78.

and mac isn't trash? The keyboard is beyond abysmal, the action, breakage and lack of escape. It runs at high temps and spends a lot of time in overheat throttle mode. I have more beefs with but apple laptops special? no way.
