You wouldn't have to download anything? You mean emacs comes stock with a F# compiler? My point is that with a single download (and no real installation besides a single click), you can get a new environment up and running in Visual Studio

I've been in the same boat, using Visual Studio for a long time. I agree that VS is an enormous, and I don't use it to its full advantage. The original author's point was, however, that getting Clojure running under emacs is less than sim

I think it depends on the size of the team (and related teams) and the sorts of dev cycles you experience. I'd say in my case, including testing and debugging, I code roughly 50% of the time. That doesn't mean, however, that I spend four

It's amazing how many problems resolve themselves when given sufficient neglect. This is my new favorite quote. I've never thought about it that way, but it is quite true.

Perl is a great tool, in the tradition of the Unix command line. Indeed. Most of my day job programming is in C#, and I don't suspect that my employer would ever want a major product release written in Perl, but we have plenty of interna

Regarding risk and climbing, I recently watched the video Committed, Volume II, which has a segment on the Whittaker family, who live in England. Katy and Pete, both young teens when the video was made, were cutting their teeth on the nerv

You'll have no lack of cragging options in Boulder, that's for sure. I've not been to Seneca--we are tried-and-true boulderers/sport climbers.

Perhaps it's not as popular because it doesn't have One True Web Framework, which is what the young'uns use these days, right? I know Catalyst and Mason are both very nice frameworks, but they don't come rolled with a base Perl installatio

It is is entirely possible to work in the software industry, on interesting projects, without living this way. I average about 45 hours a week, with no more than 35 from the office. I ride my bike to and from the office, spend most weekend
