I still haven't found an IDE that compares to VS in terms of productivity and usability. The elephant in the room here is cost. I work in various flavors of Visual Studio every day, and it is a nice IDE, but if I was bootstrapping a comp

Never thought of that, and it's clearly an interesting point, but, given that software companies are generally distributing apps across platforms, how much lock in does really exist? If I'm using app A on an iPhone, then switch to an And

I was a dedicated IR_Black user (in both VIM and Visual Studio), and didn't think highly of this at first. But after about an hour, it's grown on me. If I can scrape together some time, I'll throw together a VS2010 color scheme/theme.

(NB: My wife and I homeschool our kids.) These kids end up absolutely unequipped to do anything but reproduce more of themselves and let the rest of us finance their existence. You mean as opposed to kids who go through public schools (on

Why? There are plenty of home/un-schooling groups that you could assist even though you don't have kids.

You also don't (yet, at least) pay for "new" content. People sitting through commercials (or paying for cable) get content before it is even available to you.

Agreed. We have to produce a lot of paper doc in my domain, and in our bug base, there's a section dedicated to spec bugs. Just cos it's in the spec doesn't make it right.

Agreed. My company's offering opened my eyes to two things: 1. Many people, even in the States, have sloooow connections at home. 2. Many people have very poor cell/GSM/GPRS coverage. We still have to provide a POTS modem for our handhe

I recently converted back to Vim for all my non-.NET work (and Visual Studio is configured with Vim keybindings). I like having a single editor that I can use across platforms.

I held out on purchasing MP3s for a long time because of this very thing. The packaging was important to me--the art, the lyrics, and, in some cases, the color of vinyl. That said, I've kinda gotten over that, and happily purchase MP3s.

Has VB.NET changed much over the last seven or eight years? I've not used it in awhile, but after spending the last year working with the latest release of C#, why would anyone lament the passing of VB?

Does this same logic apply to, say, a control module in a space craft, or the software behind an MRI machine?

Polling QWERTY v Dvorak is splitting hairs. If I asked each of the people in my (reasonably sized) office what a Dvorak keyboard was, I reckon less than 10% would know what I was talking about. That said, yes, the question could have been
