What is the use case for 'seeing all information at once'. Normally you want to see something specific, in which case a terminal allows you to see that specific information faster than a GUI.

I agree, but as I said, you can have some notification daemon or tray icon to achieve the same.

I have no experience in this area, so I take your word for it. But is this not at least partly a limitation imposed by the tools you are using?

Sounds like a sub-optimal workflow tbh. Why not copy/paste in the first place and then edit?

The non-destructiveness of move semantics in C++ is very annoying. It causes for example `std::unique_ptr` to not be a zero-cost abstraction in all cases. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHIkrotSwcc for a nice expose on

Isn't stacking windows mainly useful when using for example drag and drop as a way to communicate between different applications? In the Linux world, one tends to use the file system more for that purpose. I never feel the need to stac

Agree, I do not understand the need for more than one monitor as your eyes can only focus on one monitor at the same time anyway. It looks cool to have a bunch of monitors in front of you and of course eyes notice stuff going on in your per

What exactly is the rationale though? I could not find a reason in the text for doing so, it only states, "...don't make the behavior of a command-line program depend on the type of output device...". Ok, but why?

Is the comparison with Qt relevant? My understanding is that Electron is for JavaScript what Qt is for C++. Is there not a better fit for C++ development in the web UI ecosystem?

Are there any good alternatives for coc.vim? I do not like the NodeJS dependency.

Use case: grepping (big) repos. Rg is great for that, and grep, because it is much slower, almost not usable.

The fact that you would need to do dead tree removal is a sign that something is wrong. A natural, thriving forest should not need such measures. I don't think a lot of imagination is needed to come up with the reason why we see these

Great write-up on your natural suburban yard. What other consider 'messy' I consider natural and beautiful. Our small backyard has a section where we let native plants grow. This year a handful of thistles were growing there, whic

Same issue here. Mails not loading, poor initial load time. That is with zero extensions enabled. I am now using mutt/notmuch/mbsync to prevent having to go through their horrendously slow web interface, and eventually move away f

In case performance is all you are after, this has much less potential for inlining than the rsync implementation has.

The biggest problem in my opinion is not the new looks, but the degraded performance. It seems after just opening GMail the website tries to cache every listed email in your inbox. After that is done, it becomes faster. My use case is not t

Even then, your figure of $8400 is very optimistic. Assuming 1% inflation per year people will pay $20 per month in 70 years.

One major drawback to me is the recurring cost. My feeling is that building an offline library that you truely own is much cheaper than using some streaming service with monthly recurring costs that inflate over time.

Indeed, an over generalization, it of course does not apply to every software developer. But as a C++ developer I would appreciate extra cores to cut down compilation times. And even this won’t be true for every C++ developer in case their

The Git staging area doesn't have to be this complicated. A re-branding away from index to staging area would go a long way. Adding an alias from git diff --staged to git diff --cached and removing references to the cache from common
