The web is a different animal. We can have closed operating systems and hardware (gaming consoles, for example) coexist with the inherently open nature of the web.

>I sense hypocrisy. Why not call out Google then for not having an open source search engine or adsense or maps? Or maybe that's because Google doesn't open source anything that makes them money? The open web has nothing to do

It was a really smart decision to eschew a LCD or LED display. The old-school flip display really humanizes the numbers.

Those large, fixed next and previous arrows are horrible. Does the author REALLY want me to consider skipping next or forward throughout the duration of the article? Probably not. Put the buttons at the bottom where they belong, similar to

"Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful." This goal seems far less noble since unveiling Google Glass.

I agree, the default type is too thin to use for body text. I have a real problem with the gmail app doing just this.

It's a pure cylinder. How can a basic form be ugly? I'm pretty impressed that they didn't slap a logo on the front.

I'm not sure how you're bringing morality into this. I'm simply viewing speech as communication and nothing more. Vocal fry increases noise in the signal to noise ratio, and I don't see how that could be useful.

The author never makes a case for why vocal fry might be warranted. I personally find vocal fry to be annoying because it's the linguistic version of slouching. Support your voice properly and clearly speak so the other person can hear you.

Complexity isn't better design. Apple had widgets back in OS X 10.4. Not having widgets is a design decision, not being "behind".

It's more like the father of his kid telling you that you're pronouncing the kid's name wrong. This word is only 25 years old, not centuries.

As stated elsewhere... Acronyms don't strictly take on the pronunciation of their constructive words. SCUBA, POTUS, NASA, etc. all deviate from the phonetics of the words used to construct the acronym. Why do people take this so personally?

"I'd like a gin and tonic." "It's pronounced 'jin'." "WHAT?! I DON'T CARE! I'LL DO WHAT I WANT!" (If people were irrational about a similar word's pronunciation.)

Let me reiterate my point: If those differences exist to companies (different amounts of time off), then companies have a reason to prefer one sex over the other. Childbirth is not an injury. Childbirth is literally essential for society. W
