A 'human dead mans switch' may well be more reliable than technology, so long as you pick the right person.

It'd be a lot more subtle to just have a spy on the ground operating a drone from nearby, looking like just another careless hobbyist flying where they shouldn't be. Small drones don't have much range, and balloons could have

MOBA is a strange genre. Seems to take the worst bits of of RTS and the worst of ARPG, and combine it with the worst of the gaming community and a multiplayer-only design that's very hostile to beginners. Never got on with them or real

Not sure if the anesthetics have got better or if it's just a skill issue, injecting it in precisely the right place? I had problems way back in the 90s with them not working too well on me. But my current dentist gets it perfect every

Is there any future for the gaming/enthusiast PC segment? Feels like it's dying. Becoming an ever-smaller niche. High-end gaming PCs became vastly more expensive over the last few years, between general post-Covid inflation and th

If SpaceX is overly hindered by regulation/lawfare, then there'll be competition from China before long.

SpaceX is not Musk. It may be executing his vision, but it's a team of thousands of skilled and hard-working people, all eager to work on a Sunday for a chance to pull something like this off.

That 'confusing UI' is fully functional with a game controller, and consistent across many cores. Which is a massive win when you want to run emulators on devices without mouse/keyboard, and more than makes up for minor perfo

Retroarch isn't perfect - but it makes emulators usable on devices without mouse+keyboard, with a consistent UI for configuration. Without it, emulation on Steam Deck and Miyoo/Ambernic-style devices would be nowhere near as good

I'm wondering if the anticipated Switch 2 is going to be very similar to the current device in terms of architecture and OS, and the real concern of Nintendo isn't Switch 1 piracy right now, it's that the current Switch emula

So much of the effort and expense has gone into creating a large plastic shell and custom keyboard, though, resulting in a costly product targeting a very small niche of the already fairly niche hobby that is retro computing/gaming (or

Do people go swimming with their phones? Older devices could generally handle splashes, e.g being used in light rain. Water damage seemed far less likely than drop damage.

A small amount of adhesive might be justifiable, but the amount used is excessive and seems there primarily to increase ‘repair friction’, in a rather dangerous way - actively increasing the chance of a battery fire when replacement attempt

Replacing a consumable part, particularly a battery, should not be a complex repair requiring specialised tools.

Pagers, by definition, are likely to be older technology. The internals could be replaced with modern smaller and lower-power equivalents, requiring a smaller battery, and saving enough space. (Or maybe somebody just donated a batch of inno

That was a mistake. If they'd gone for the thinnest smartphone they could buy, there'd be no chance of anybody hiding a small bomb inside it.

There's footage on Twitter showing an actual detonation, with a bang. Not a huge blast (the man falls to the ground injured, but bystanders seemed unharmed). Definitely not the rapid burning 'whoosh' of a battery fire.

"Intelligence agency intercepts batch of pagers and swaps out the internals" seems the most likely. If the footage on Twitter is legit, there was something more explosive than a battery inside those pagers.

These appear to be actual explosions, not battery combustion (there's footage on Twitter of at least one of them going off, it's a detonation rather than intense burning) Definitely some non-standard internals in those devices...
