To my eyes, it looks too american-style.

Yup. It must be an american thing. I've never seen it in any typewritten document in Italy.

If you can handle, go for it! But if after a while you'll think that lisp is not so different from the other languages after all, it's probably because you tried to learn too many things at once. In that case, persist. :-)

I am no lisp expert, and I'm well aware of the legendary cloud of terror and harshness which is said to hover on comp.lang.lisp. However, by lurking there for a while, I came to understand better the reasons of the residents. Here, "obvious

I am not sure that writing a web app is the best way to learn common lisp; it introduces a lot of extra complexity (libraries, web server, etc) in a language that is itself quite complex. You'd better start from a simple CLI application as

Never had any problem with the CL community. You often get really good and extensive replies, provided you don't ask questions before connecting the brain.

It seems that Eco's DVD player has no "pause" button. Also, the interesting part regarding Berlusconi in the WL cables are not the facts, but the american opinions about them, which apparently are quite different from the official ones.

I've never searched for them, but I know that modules for SPI games do exist, they aren't just distributed on the Vassal site.

There is very little "rule set" in Vassal. Essentially it is a configurable electronic board; rules are enforced by the players, not by the platform.

Note that while some modules are hobbyst work, some publishers (most notably GMT Games) make the vassal modules of their games freely available when the paper game is published. It's a great resource indeed.

Vassal is mostly used for wargames. There are some modules for eurogames, but they are few and not always of good quality.

"Never an obligation" is imprecise. Voting in Italy was obligatory until 1993. Also see article 48 of the italian constitution, where the exercise of the vote is defined "a civic duty".

I don't doubt the quality of LW, I just doubt that 64bit can be considered an optional feature these days.

While not strictly (and not just) a to-do system, I am quite satisfied -so far- with the Pomodoro Technique. It enhanced my productivity considerably, and it is also an apparently sustainable todo system.

Withdrawing from the euro is unthinkable, in practical terms. However, what if national currencies are reintroduced in addition to the euro? (just some lateral thinking...)

Italy is not corrupt enough for this. The law is more or less applied (more or less also depending on the region) but in a random, chaotic, occasional fashion, because an uniform application is really impossible. It's a bit like the idea of

But civil law more easily may degrade in a byzantine mess. Here in Italy there are more than 100,000 laws (estimated, for no one really knows, and this is just for national laws, and not including technical regulations). Which means that no
