C++20 coroutines didn't include the facilities to get a coroutine directly from writing a loop with the `yield` keyword like in Python. You can see all the boilerplate needed in this post's `Generator` class. For me, it made the f

Yeah, I didn't really mean "there's no point in keeping an inventory". I totally agree about buying extras and building inventory over time. But that's all you need to do, IMO. For the beginner you can apply this pr

The advice I wish I knew is to not buy an inventory of parts. I bought a bunch of resistors, capacitors, LEDs, etc., with no specific plan. Most of it sits unused. There's no point in keeping an inventory because almost every project w

I get the impression that Uncle Bob Martin worked on CRUD-type projects with very few interesting design decisions to be made about what the software should do computationally. In these projects, the programmer's mind wanders. It lat

Matlab has great docs. Lots of examples and just the right amount of detail. As an example, here's the doc for the backslash operator that solves a linear system: https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/

yeah, to be fair I only know it through the C++ `auto` keyword, but I dislike its overuse. It's great for weird templated iterator types but I prefer to see the concrete type if it's a reasonable length.

What was your test? Do you mean the problem is in GitHub, not git? I suppose GitHub caches a lot of git's output in DBs to improve response time, sounds like fertile ground for bugs.

tangent: in github.com/dspinellis/unix-history-repo linked from the article, the default branch is shown to have "∞ commits". Any ideas where this bug comes from? Something related to Unix epoch?

In the UK eating example, it would be better to examine the feature-space singular vector associated with the first singular value instead of instructing the reader to "go back and look at the data in the table". PCA has already d

A bit weird to develop everything in terms of a finite probability space. I guess it helps avoid fiddly technical issues of measurability. But we don't want the reader to believe that MCMC only works for finite sets. I think the most f

It's not the tall windows themselves that are dangerous, it's the accompanying low door sills. Higher door sills mean more of your body is protected by metal instead of glass.

Not possible sadly. A lot of the appealing features on older cars (thin pillars, tall windows) are incompatible with current safety standards. Part of the reason why new cars tend to look clunky.

It's true. Basically every estimation or inference problem can be solved by MCMC. The only reason not to do so is a lack of computational power.

A bit disappointed that the author quoted so many people speculating on the thought processes of young people, but did not ask any young people their feelings. (or asked but chose not to report)
