I'm not saying startups are a panacea. I'm just saying that perhaps there's one more way for others to benefit from the wealth that startups are generating. This is just one among many possible ways and means.

Certainly. But there is also an order of magnitude gain available (in theory, at least) if you can get in on an early round.

ICOs still feel like the wild west. They feel way more riskier than contributing to a "validated" funding round. That said, VC rounds obviously are no guarantee of good judgement either.

I have a better (may be slightly insane) idea. Open up startup investing (VC rounds especially) to a wider audience through some kind of index fund. Retirement and pension funds, endowments etc are too roundabout a way of actually benefitti

What if it was fire retardant instead? I haven't thought it through, but probably more effective and easier mechanism of delivery than water?

I'd argue some fraction is enough. It still represents millions saved in damages.

Perhaps. But does it have to be water? How do you know something won't work until you try it? Even with all the fire retardant sprayed onto massive wildfires from the sky, we're unable to stop them. Why wouldn't a different a

I've thought about the firefighting idea as well, especially after the recent Sonoma and Napa fire. Sprinkler systems for indoor fires are not that uncommon now. Why aren't there sprinkler/fire retardant systems for the perim

People can't buy better stuff because they don't have jobs or jobs that pay well enough. Those jobs leaving are what helps them buy the cheaper stuff. Quite the roundabout, isn't it?

As an aside, it both saddens and surprises me that we don't hesitate twice when buying the cheap stuff (made abroad, of course) but also complain that all the jobs have left. It's certainly not a small town, blue-collar occupation

I can empathize with your H-1B remark (been there) but I don't think you got the subtext of what "owning a person" meant. What he meant there is employees=sheep (mostly), contractors=wolves (mostly). H-1B or not, most employe

You're getting a little defensive here. IBM was one of the crown jewels of American industry. It was an iconic company in its time. The fact that it now employs more people in India than the US is something to ponder. It isn't so

I'm all for lab-grown meat but I do question if you'll ever fully satisfy the meat lovers. In my opinion, a better approach would be a hybrid meat/fake meat option which would still make a huge dent in factory farming but app

I like the lovable (or as someone said in the comments, compelling) part. Thinking of customer development, would it still be risky to build an SLC and then validate your hypothesis? Presumably, since you've focused on both lovability
